“So you’re Noah from the physics department!” I exclaimed.
No wonder the name Noah from physics had sounded familiar to me. He had once told me he was a physics major, but he had never
mentioned that we went to the same school.
“So when you said you liked me…”

“Hold it right there! I just said that offhand. Don’t take it seriously.”
A flash of disappointment passed through his eyes. The moment he lowered them, his lashes cast shadows over his eyes, and he looked so damp–eyed and vulnerable that he reminded me of a little deer.
“How about this–since I owe you, I’ll treat you to a meal?”
Only then did he lift his head. “Okay!”
After dinner, I lay back in my dorm room and kept thinking about what he had said while we were eating.
I had asked him why he would help a complete stranger he had never even met before, and he told me that every time he saw me, I gave him a strange sense of familiarity, and deep down, something kept telling him he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
He smiled then and, half joking, said that maybe we had known each other a very long time ago.
