Chapter 10
Evelyn’s POV
The next morning, I wake up surprised that I once again slept through the night without experiencing any fits of pain. My body feels refreshed as I dress for the day and make my way to the dining hall for breakfast. Only, as I scan the table for what’s left, I find that it’s all cold and rather unappetizing
Just like it is every morning.
I’m not sure how that’s possible. I’ve been getting here earlier and earlier so I can make sure I get something warm and decent, so I don’t know how there can only be scraps left. Plus, if the pack has such great financial resources, then shouldn’t there be better options than this?
I frown as I stare down at the half torn apart muffins and stale bagels left behind. Meanwhile, everyone else is eating steaming hot plates of eggs and sausage. I’m so distracted that I nearly miss the female Omega – Heather – that suddenly appears at my
side.
Already, she sneers at me.
“I’m not sure why you look so disappointed,” Heather jabs at me. “You’re the one who’s late so now there’s only leftovers. Deal with it.”
Deal with it.
Her words are harsh, snotty. Just as they always are whenever she speaks to me. I assume that has something to do with Bianca
– Heather is one of her minions, after all.
No wonder she willingly took her opportunity to degrade me. This isn’t the first time either, but normally she isn’t so open about it. She silently leaves me the scraps, brings clothes to my room that are clearly meant for servants.
All of which I’d tried to handle in private, but I’d been dismissed by none other than Bianca herself.
As Heather’s words still echo in my mind, I look around at the others who watch us. They seem like they’re on the edge of their seats, waiting for me to duck my head and slink away. That’s what I’ve always done before when someone dares to throw out a
mean comment.
But I’m starting to realize that my silent acceptance and passive endurance is getting me nowhere. It’s useless. Plus, if I’m going to heal my wolf then I’m going to need proper nutrition.
Just like the day before, I feel my anger beginning to pool in my stomach. It quickly grows, thrashing around and taking hold of
my tongue.
“I don’t think you should really be speaking to me that way,” I told her.
Immediately, Heather scoffs. “Do you really think you’re the boss now?” she asks. “If I were you, I wouldn’t cause trouble or else you’ll just upset Kane.”
Her words are meant to be a warning. Only, they have the opposite effect as I feel myself brighten with possibility. Little does she know, upsetting Kane is exactly what I want to do.
That possibility is what causes me to grab a handful of cold oatmeal from the table and throw it right into her face.
As Heather gasps and lets out a shriek, I can’t help but laugh. Only, I’m not the only one delighted by the scene as I sense my wolf instantly stir inside of me. It appears that she’s laughing right alongside me.
Her approval only widens my smile as I prove my theory once again – my wolf is growing stronger. And if she’s growing stronger than perhaps she can be saved. I make a mental note to contact Dr. Borsheim about this as soon as I get the chance, but then Heather begins to scream.
“What are you doing!?” she exclaims, a mess as oatmeal coats her face, hair, and even falls to smear against her shirt. “You’re

not even a Luna! Just some freeloading breeder!”
Again, I laugh, showing that her words have no power over me. “Yeah. Yeah, I guess I am,” I reply, wiping the remainder of oatmeal off my hands.
Annoyed that she didn’t cut me down, she lets out an annoyed growl. “I’ll make sure you get what you deserve!” she threatens. Max, Darius – seize her!”
Out of the corner of my eye, I see two men stand from a nearby table. Before I can move, the men are on either side of me, taking hold of both my arms so I’m unable to move. Just then, as if to only add to my suffering, a familiar blonde enters the room.
“What is going on?” Bianca asks as she stares at me and then to Heather. Immediately, Heather feigns hysterics as she runs to Bianca’s side.
“She attacked me out of nowhere,” she complains, showing Bianca the oatmeal. “I was just trying to help her find some breakfast!”
Bianca’s eyes widen before they turn to narrow on me. She then storms over, getting right in my face.
