Evie’s pov
Mom’s eyes are filled with fury, one that made my stomach churn and my heart to spike. I pulled in a shaky breath before I utter “Mom-
Her eyes narrowed and a sneer paints her face as she steps into the room and slams the door shut. “I’ve told you countless times to not call me that!” Her snarl was loud and furious as she storms towards me.
My eyes widen and my breath stutters when her fingers wrap around my neck, pressing hard until she was basically choking me.
“What did you do!?” She hisses, eyes flashing a dangerous color. A cold sweat burst on my skin as fear curls in my belly. “What did you do to him? What kind of disgusting stunt were you trying to pull?!”
My heart lurches painfully and my eyes dilate with fear. “N-nothing, I swear-“I try to protest but one look in her eyes and I knew I had to swallow my words. Because they wouldn’t matter. She’d not care if I was innocent. In her mind I was already the one who does everything wrong. The disappointment of not only the family but the pack.
“Don’t lie to me!” her fingers press around my neck so tightly she stops the air flow to my lungs. I choke, trying to breathe.” He stormed out of the forest looking deranged and everyone saw him glaring at your window just a few moments ago Evie. What trouble are you stirring, what did you do to the future alpha!?”
My fingers claw at her wrist instinctively as panic rise sharply as the pressure around my throat tightens. I can’t breathe. I can’t
breathe.
Her nails dig into my skin as she leans in closer, her breath hot and venomous against my face. “You always ruin everything. You selfish bitch. Just couldn’t let Kimberly have her day now could you?”
My vision blurs at the edges and tears tingle to the corners of my eyes, blurring them even more. I can very well feel my pulse hammering frantically beneath her grip as I struggle against the pressure.
“N-no-” I wheeze, my voice breaking. “I-I swear-”
Her lips curl viciously as her eyes pin me down viciously. Her grip tightens painfully. “You think you can take what belongs to Kimberly?!”
My eyes burn. Not just from the lack of air but from the cruelty in her voice. The disgust. If only she knew that Ryan was actually mine. Fated to me. But I knew if she got a whiff of this news, she’d kill me
“I would never-“I gasp. I would never risk Ryan’s future or the packs. I’d rather everyone be happy than ruin everything as I have always done.
“Shut up!” Her scream trembles through me as her fingers squeeze harder until my eyes water uncontrollably. Black dots flicker in my vision. My legs tremble and my nails scrape uselessly at her wrist as I try to free myself from her furious grasp.
The black dots grow more aggressive and when I thought I’d finally black out, suddenly, she releases me. I collapse onto my knees, coughing viciously as I try to drag air into my burning lungs.
My trembling hand flies to my throat, pressing to the tender skin that throbs under my fingertips. My mother looks down at me with pure disdain, a look I have grown accustomed to.
“You are trying to ruin everything,” she spits. ” Kimberly’s future. This family’s name. The pack’s stability. I knew you were obsessed with that boy. Always following him around like some damn hungry lost puppy!”
My throat aches with every breath, but I manage to whisper, voice hoarse. “I-I am not. I promise.”
“Liar!”Her slap comes so fast I didn’t even see it. I only feel the sting explode across my cheek, snapping my head to the side.” You both are still wet! Something must’ve happened,” she snarls.
Hot tears spill down my face before I can stop them. Calm down, Evie. I try to stop myself from crying knowing she hates when t

She hates it when I cry. I can already feel her fury spike at the sight of my tears. And as expected, her sneer paints on her face in rage. Her fingers grip my jaw and force my face up toward her. Our eyes clash and my soul shrinks under the weight of her disgusted gaze.
“You listen to me,” she hisses, her eyes glowing with a depth of anger that makes my stomach drop. “Ryan will be Alpha. Kimberly will be Luna. Your place is beneath both of them. You are nothing. Do you understand me?”
My breath trembles as she forces my chin higher, her nails digging into my skin painfully. “Do you understand me?” she repeats, slower this time with every word dripping with disdain.
My chest hurts. “Y-es.”
Once the words tumble out of my mouth, her lips twist into something ugly and satisfied. She releases my jaw with a shove that sends me stumbling back onto my hands. My palms scrape against the floor but I don’t dare react, I don’t dare say a word. Hell, I don’t even dare breathe too loudly.
She paces once in front of me, the fury radiating off her in waves. Then she turns around sharply, her eyes flaring.” If you even so much as look at him again,” her snarl is loud and harsh. “If you embarrass this family with whatever pathetic fantasies you’ve created in that delusional little head of yours, I will make sure the Alpha knows you’re becoming a problem. Do you understand what that means?”
My heart goes cold because I know what she means. The alpha would banish me. I would no longer be part of the pack. I would no longer be anywhere near Ryan.
I nod and let my gaze fall to the floor.
“Good,” she spits and turns around to leave. But as her fingers wrap around the doorknob, she halts and utters. “You should’ve never been born.” After those final words she leaves and slams the door shut behind her, leaving her own daughter to wallow in pain, not only from her words but knowing that in this lifetime what was meant to be hers would never be.
