The Grave that Lied 8

Chapter 8

The next day, Salvatore and I went to the nursing home to visit Francesca’s grandmother.

She really thought I was Francesca, gently touching my face.

“You’ve lost so much weight. Don’t starve yourself-make sure you eat enough.”

My eyes stung. I nodded and said okay.

We ate with her, and she kept fussing over me, piling more food onto my plate.

After we left, Salvatore thanked me.

It was the least I could do-I was the one who owed him thanks.

He’d already arranged for Zita to be brought to New York and placed her in a neighborhood with

top-tier security.

Zita was nervous, but when she saw me, she relaxed a little. “What exactly is going on?”

After I explained, she was stunned, her eyes wide, tears streaming down her face.

I worried about her and the baby.

She shot back fiercely, “Don’t worry, I’m not that fragile. If I ever see them, I’ll make sure they

really pay.”

I touched her belly and teased, “Don’t listen to that, baby.”

A week later, I went to the police station with my lawyer, carrying the evidence I had organized.

Cynthia took the call and froze. Then fury swept over her.

“Willow, how dare you!”

She spun around to grab her other phone, only to find it in Orlando’s hands,

“When were these photos taken?”

“Why would you do this?”

He stepped closer with every question.

“How much else have you been hiding from me?”

“Cynthia, you go on and on about how sorry you are, how guilty you feel, but how many times have you stabbed Willow in the back?”

Cynthia tried to keep her composure.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. She already reported it. The priority now is dealing with

that.”

Orlando’s eyes were bloodshot as he kept pressing her.

“Why did you lie to me? What else are you hiding?”

Cynthia gasped, clutching her stomach. “Honey, I…”

“Stop pretending.” Orlando cut her off coldly.

He looked at her, muttering almost to himself, “How did I ever fall for you…”

Those words ignited Cynthia completely. She grabbed his shirt.

“You regret it? Why didn’t you love me? I’m prettier than Willow, I have a better body, personality,

abilities, family background…”

“I’ve got her beat in every way. You should’ve loved me.”

She clung to him, her voice trembling. “Honey, I love you. I know you love me the most.”

“We have a baby. We can’t let Willow destroy our family. No way. I’ll handle it-I’m calling my

uncle right now.”

Orlando pushed her away. “No. I’ve already decided to turn myself in.”

“Orlando!” Cynthia was stunned. “Why? You don’t want me and the baby anymore?”

Orlando shook his head, a bitter, sorrowful smile tugging at his lips,

“And what about the baby with Willow? You killed it.”

“I didn’t!” Cynthia insisted.

Her stomach started to hurt badly.

She kept shouting, but Orlando didn’t turn back. He just slammed the door behind him.
