Chapter 2
It felt like a dull blade carving into my heart.
I propped myself up and looked at the two of them, all tenderness and devotion, and let out a bitter laugh.
“So what? I’m supposed to thank him?”
‘Thank him for aborting my full-term baby for your sake, secretly removing my uterus, nearly killing me, and still being gracious enough to sit by my bed until I woke up?”
Vivian’s tears fell faster, one after another.
She glared at me through them. “Fine. It’s all my fault, okay? I’m the one who hurt you! I’ll make it up to you. Is that what you want?”
Like she’d gone mad, she shoved Luca aside, grabbed the fruit knife off the table, and drove it toward her
own stomach.
“I’ll cut out my baby and my uterus too and give them to you as payment! Will that make you happy?”
Luca locked her in his arms and caught the blade with one hand, blood running down his fingers.
Then he lifted his head and looked at me coldly, while I stood there too stunned to move.
“Satisfied now?”
He carefully scooped Vivian up into his arms, and left without looking back.
The only thing he left behind was one sentence.
“Looks like I was too good to you.”
“That’s why you started thinking you could do whatever you wanted. Since that’s the case, you should learn
what it means to suffer.”
I watched his back disappear and smiled through my tears.
The man who had once sworn to spoil me for life and never let me suffer a single day had died somewhere
along the years.
Luca’s bodyguards dragged me off the bed and threw me out the door.
‘Starting today, everything Don gave you is being taken back. If you want to keep staying in that ward…”
I gave a bitter smile and turned away. “No need. I don’t want Luca or anything that belongs to him.”
They took my phone and my wallet.
Because those had all been bought by Luca.

Penniless, I stood on the street and tried to stop a ride home.
But every time a kind stranger slowed down, Luca’s men stepped forward and said the same thing.
“If you’re not afraid of crossing the Moretti family’s don, then go ahead and let her in.”
They shook their heads helplessly at me and quickly stepped on the gas to leave.
Seeing that I could barely stay upright, one of the bodyguards finally spoke in a flat voice.
“Don asked me to pass along a message. This is what happens when you disobey him.”
“If you’re willing to apologize to Miss Clark and personally take care of her through the pregnancy, I’ll drive
you home.”
Ignoring him, I kept walking, one step after another, as blood ran down my legs and dripped onto the asphalt,
drawing stares from passing strangers.
But I felt nothing anymore.
I walked until dark before I finally made it back to the house.
The place was brightly lit.
Warm light spilled through the windows and pushed back the midnight cold.
I raised my stiff, freezing fingers and typed in the code.
The keypad answered with a harsh error beep.
I tried again and again.
Each time, the system rejected me.
At last the housekeeper stormed over and yanked the door open, irritation all over her face.
‘Donna, stop trying. Until you apologize to Don, you don’t get to use anything he paid for.”
‘This house belongs to Don too. If you won’t apologize, you don’t come in.”
She looked me up and down and gave a scornful laugh. “If you ask me, you should hurry up and say you’re
sorry.
“What is Don’s identity? There are women lining up outside to take your place. Look at you. No family. No
looks. You’re in your thirties, and now you can’t even have children…”
‘The woman outside is pregnant, and he still hasn’t divorced you. He’s already being more than generous.
What are you throwing a fit for?”
I cut her off quietly, “I’m not coming in. I just need one thing.”

She choked on that, then sneered. “Everything you own was bought by Don. What do you have that’s actually yours? Don’t tell me you’re trying to steal his jewelry or bags and sell them.”
I met her gaze. “I only want my lab report. Is that a problem?”
Rolling her eyes, she went upstairs and came back with a thick envelope, which she threw at me.
picked it up and looked at the report inside, only to find Luca’s name on the test result and the diagnosis:
azoospermia.
I smiled soundlessly.
This was the premarital medical report from ten years ago, when Luca and I got married.
The day I saw those results, my feelings had been too tangled to put into words.
A proud man like Luca-how could he ever accept something like that?
And if his rivals found out, how many of them would have used it to crush him?
But the doctor had told me a secret too.
My body was special.
One of the rare cases that could activate Luca’s nonviable sperm and make conception possible.
‘Donna, Don is lucky to have married you,” the doctor had said. “In all my years, I’ve only met one woman with
a body like yours.’
I had planned to bury that secret forever and never let Luca find out.
I just never imagined there would come a day when I would be the one to expose it.
I took the last bit of cash I had left and made more than a dozen copies.
Then I handed them to a courier.
Each envelope was labeled with the name, address, and private contact information of one of the families
Luca had made enemies of.
In a soft voice, I told the courier, “Get these to them as fast as you can. You only need to say one thing.”
‘Tell them it’s a gift from the Donna of the Moretti family. They’ll tip you well.”
Luca, before I left, this was the final gift I had for you.
I hoped you liked it.
