Sophia hovered nearby, trying to calm Larry down, while casting a resentful glance at Maverick, who stood stubborn and silent.
Seeing the tension mounting, I quickly “panicked,” shook Maverick off, and ran to Sophia’s side, burying my face in her arm.
“Ms. Pretty, you smell so nice. I really like you.”
I shook my head, looked up with a vacant grin, and pleaded, “Miss, take me with you I don’t want him!”
Sophia stiffened, a flash of disgust darted through her eyes.
But she quickly masked it with an awkward smile.
Witnessing my affection for Sophia, Maverick stood frozen in place, looking as if he might shatter at any moment.
“Mav, you see? Mona only wants to be close to Sophie now.”

Larry softened his tone and dangled an enticing offer.
“Promise me you’ll marry Sophie. After the wedding, Mona can live with you both.
“I’ll use all our family’s resources to assemble the world’s best medical team for Mona. Maybe
she’ll recover soon…”
With my head lowered, hidden from view, I let a cold smile creep across my lips.
Here it was–the same scene as last time, just with the roles reversed.
.ast time, after Sophia became a fool, Maverick faced Larry’s wrath.
Maybe out of guilt, or maybe just to stop Larry from blaming me.
Maverick insisted on marrying me and promised Larry that after we married, he’d keep Sophia
by his side and take care of her.
He called it “protecting her like a sister for life.”
