Finally, after days of hitting a wall, Sophia came up with a “master plan.”
She handed me the spiked glass of milk, watching me intently, desperate not to miss even the
slightest change in my expression.
After all, if I were only pretending to be a fool, why would I help her get closer to Maverick?
But when I nodded obediently, looking every bit the innocent, most of the suspicion in Sophia’s
eyes faded away.
And when I came back out with the empty glass, her eyes shone with barely contained
excitement.
“Alright, go on to bed now,” she urged, glancing at my bedroom, which was close to the study.
She lowered her voice, trying to sound menacing. “Mona, no matter what noises you hear
tonight, don’t come out.
‘There’s a big monster in the study. I’m going in there with May to slay it.
“If you show up, the monster will gobble you up first!
She bared her teeth and claws, letting out a playful “rawr” at me.
And just as she hoped, I scampered off to my room, “terrified” and out of sight.
Before long, the sound of arguing drifted from the study.
But it wasn’t long before Sophia’s tearful sniffles took over.
Whether it was Maverick moved by the beauty’s tears, or the drug starting to take e study gradually fell quiet.

Occasionally, faint moans and gasps broke the silence.
I unlocked my phone.
When I’d delivered the milk earlier, I’d slipped a micro camera into the study.
On the monitor, the two of them were already tangled up, unable to let go.
Seeing my plan unfold perfectly, I closed my eyes in peace and slept soundly through the night.
After that wild night, a shadow seemed to settle over Maverick, impossible to shake off.
He grew even more withdrawn.
When he looked at me, there was pain in his eyes–but now, more than ever, he couldn’t meet
my gaze.
Especially whenever Sophia clung to him with bashful affection, “accidentally” revealing the
telltale marks on her neck.
One day, I was sitting on the swing in the garden when a figure blocked the sunlight above me.
“Mona…”
Maverick crouched down in front of me.
His lips moved, as if he wanted to say something, but hesitated…
“I…”
“Big meanie, did a giant mosquito bite you?”
