Chapter 14: You’re my mate

Jaxon POV

I have a chosen mate? That’s news to me. What is Sable talking about? “You’re my mate, are you not?”

Her cheeks heat up again. It’s entertaining. She’s a lead warrior and apparently a very good one, yet here she is, blushing at a simple question.

“I mean, yeah, but your future Luna said you would be rejecting me after I recovered.” She said looking down. She looks sad and although I shouldn’t care, I don’t like seeing her that way.

“I don’t have a chosen mate or future Luna. Well, I do now, but I didn’t before you ended up here. What’s the name of the woman who told you she was my Luna? Did she say?”

She looks at me skeptically. Like she is trying to decide if she believes me or not. She purses her lips together as she makes a decision. Her facial expressions are telling. It gives me insight to what might be going on through her mind. “Diana, Diane, Deena, something close to that.” She responds.

I feel my temper rising again. Drax isn’t happy either. ‘Nia doesn’t want to talk to me now. She thinks I lied to her about wanting her! Fix this Jax.’

“Diane has never been anything more than a friend with benefits.” I say honestly, “I will be discussing

this with her later.”

“What is ‘friends with benefits’? Sable asks just as Matt walks back in and heard that. He starts laughing.

“Oh Alpha, I should probably leave, you have some explaining to do.” Matt said.

“Fuck off, Matt. Do me a favor, bring Diane here, NOW.” I order.

“What happened?” He asked and I cut him a look, “Right, let me go get her.”

I look back at Sable who has an eyebrow raised at me. “So, friend with benefits?”

Shit, I guess she doesn’t get distracted as easily as Matt does. “Um, she is someone I have sex with and nothing more. She knows that the arrangement and knows I was never going to make her my Luna.” I said quickly, this time I think I feel my face turn red.

“So you are currently having sex with her?”

“Not now.” I said. Goddess, this is going to turn into a train wreck, I see it coming. Why did I tell her? Fuck.

“Uh-huh. Okay.” She says sitting back on the bed. She is looking out the window. “Do the warriors here

view her as Luna?”

I laughed, “Um, no. They look at her the same way I do.”

Her eyes widened. Goddess, she must be really fucking innocent. All of this seems like a foreign concept for her. “She has sex with the warriors too? You’re okay with that?”

“Honestly, I couldn’t care less Sable. She wasn’t my mate, fated or otherwise. She had no business coming here to stir trouble with you.”

“Oh.” She says.

“How old are you?” I ask her.

“Twenty-three.” She said absentmindedly. She is still pondering what I said to her.

“You seem innocent for someone who is twenty-three.” I say but she ignores my statement.

“Sex isn’t something you cherish or value?” She asked, taking me off guard.

“It used to, but not now. A man has needs too. I’m 27 years old, can’t expect an Alpha to stay celibate, can you?”

“Hmm.” That was all she said.

“Do you have family or someone special waiting back at Dark Flame?”

The light in her eyes seems to dim at the question. “No.”

“No boyfriend?”

“I don’t casually date.” She said and the way she said it sounded like she was taking a dig at me.

“You’re mad?”

“Disappointed.” She said.

Before I could ask her why, though I suspect it’s because I treat sex casually, Matt comes back in pulling Diane with him. “Alpha, here she is.”

“Thanks Matt.” I look over at Diane who is looking at me nervously, “Why are you going around saying that you are my future Luna?”

“I was just teasing the new girl, Alpha Jaxon.”

“Let me be clear, you are not now, nor will you ever be my Luna. We have discussed this enough times. Remember what I told you last time?”

Her eyes widened, “Alpha, I’m sorry. I didn’t think it was such a big deal. Please forgive me.”

She’s begging. Good. “First, you should be apologizing to my mate. Second, your privileges are stripped. You will go to live in one of the cottages on the pack borders. You are no longer allowed to stay in the pack house. Third, you will not come near Sable again. Am I clear?”

“Alpha, please don’t strip me of my privileges. Please. I have always been good to you, haven’t I? Are you really going to trade me in for some warrior from an enemy pack?” She cried.

“I have spoken. It is final. But I’m not trading you. We were never anything more than each other’s release. You are not a chosen mate to make such a statement. Further, that warrior is your future Luna.

Remember that and act accordingly or you get banished.”

Just then, one of the nurses walked in, “Luna Diane, are you okay?”
