Chapter 25: She ran off again
Jaxon POV
I’m knee deep in training the warriors at the training facility There is always room for improvement Larn currently sparring with Matt We have been focused on the whole human trafficking going on at Dark

As we are sparring, I ask him, “Have you found anything new about where the kidnapped women and
men are going?”
He blocks my attack, “Not yet. The logs look clean. I think they may be getting inside help from somewhere. It’s too well hidden, Alpha.”
“Let’s keep looking. There must be something we are missing.”
“Do you think Sable might know anything?”
At hearing her name, I suddenly remember she has been in the hospital for two days and I forgot to visit her…again. FUCK. She is going have my balls in a vice.
“Shit, I need to go.” I say, grabbing my shirt.
“Alpha, what’s wrong?”
“I left Sable in the hospital two days ago. I haven’t gone to see her. I’ve been too wrapped up with the human trafficking, I forgot.” 1
“You forgot your mate again? Seriously, Jaxon, do you not care about her at all?” Matt chastises me.
“I’ve been distracted. Let me go see how she is doing.” I say running out of the training area.
I rush to the pack hospital. When I get there I see the doctor, “Hey doc, how is Sable doing?”
“You finally remember you have a Luna, I see.” He says with a sarcastic tone.
“Enough with the sarcasm doctor. Where is her room?” I say clipped.
“She’s gone Alpha. Discharged early this afternoon. My nurse pointed her to the pack house. That was about four hours ago. She was disappointed, even though she tried not to show it.”
‘You dumbass. You forgot our mate again. I kept trying to remind you, but you were ignoring me. Take your ass to the pack house!’ Drax scolds me. 1
Everyone seems to be scolding me today. First Matt, now the doctor. I’m sure I will hear an earful from Sable too. I need to keep her here for the elder’s sake. I say my goodbyes and run to the pack house. Her scent is there. At least she didn’t leave. I breathe a sigh of relief. I opened the door and her scent is gone. I walk back outside. I smell her spiced cranberry and cinnamon scent at the door, but not inside. Don’t tell me, no one was here to greet her.

‘About four hours ago.’ I said.
For fuck’s sake, Jaxon. Can you put some effort? You are going to continuously be sleeping outside or she is going to reject you and you will have earned it.’

I continue following her scent into the woods. It stops at the tree line. It smells strongly here. I think she shifted here. Fuck. Did she shift and run off again? I don’t think that she will go back to Dark Flame. That would be too obvious.
‘Drax, can you help me out a little?’
He puts my nose in the air and points in the right direction. ‘Head through the trees.’
I make my way through the trees and I start to pick up her scent in the direction of the lake. It’s a beautiful place. It used to be where I would get away when I remembered Giselle. I haven’t thought about her with any emotion in a long time, so I stopped coming here. As I get closer, I hear growling.
‘Our mates are in trouble. Hurry!’
Shit. I start running as I hear growling and then whimpering. I tell Drax to take over and he pulls the shift and we run faster. When I get there, Sable is fighting four rogues. I leap over the falling tree and in front of her to protect her. I snarl and growl at the rogues who are snapping their jaws at me. A fifth rogue comes from behind the tree. He hasn’t shifted. 1
“We only want the she-wolf. Hand her over, and we will leave. We don’t want any problems with you Alpha Jaxon,” he says lazily.
I snarl louder. No fucking way am I letting them take her. I will rip throats out.
“No? Okay, well, don’t say we didn’t give you the chance to make this a peaceful transaction.” He finishes before shifting mid-jump. I leap forward and grab him by his throat. I tear at his back legs. There are five and Sable just got discharged.

The next thing I know, two other rogues jump my back and start biting into my back. I snarl and right as I’m about to throw one off my back, I hear a snap of a neck on one of the rogues and the other one whimpering. I snap the neck of the one in my jaw and turn around.
Sable is fighting the last two solo and she is making it look easy. Not only did she get the other two off of me, but I see her fighting the other two. I jump in and grab one of the remaining rogues and crack his leg. He pulls a shift as Sable snaps the neck of the other rogue.
