Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Chelsea’s screaming threw Lincoln into total chaos.

“Crap! We definitely can’t have a baby right now!”

“But Plan B works for up to 72 hours, so we’re good!”

He completely ignored my breakup and dragged Chelsea out by her arm.

I looked around the empty apartment.

There was nothing left here worth holding onto.

I opened my phone and checked for flights back home.

Home was over 500 miles away. The earliest flight wasn’t until tomorrow night.

Just then, my mom called.

She was furious.

“Where the hell is that bastard? Does he even know how to talk to people? All that food I gave him-what a waste! I

should’ve known better!”

“You need to come home RIGHT NOW! I don’t want you near that animal for one more second!”

I tried to calm her down while explaining I was planning to book tomorrow night’s flight.

“Don’t book anything yet. Just wait for my call!”

With that, she hung up in a rush.

Ten minutes later,

That blind date guy, Maverick Stone, sent me a message.

[Be downstairs in 5 minutes. I’m picking you up.]

I was stunned.

How did he get here so fast?

And how did he even know my address?

Chapter 4

I grabbed my suitcase and headed down.

Less than five minutes later, a black Mercedes pulled up next to me.

A sharp, elegant man stepped out.

“I’m Maverick. Your mom sent me.”

Right then, across the street, Lincoln walked out of a pharmacy with Chelsea-Plan B in hand, smug look plastered on

her face.

He looked up and saw me standing face-to-face with Maverick.

And Maverick took my suitcase and loaded it into the back seat.

Lincoln’s face went dark. He stormed over

“Nina, where are you going? Stop being dramatic, okay? I can explain last night! It was just an accident!”

“Hey! You’re the Uber driver, right? Trip’s canceled. You can go.”

I was so sick of his voice.

So I pointed at Maverick and made the introduction.

“He’s NOT a driver. He’s my blind date.”

“And he’s taking me home.”

“We’re done. For good.”

With that, I got in and slammed the door.

Lincoln’s fury exploded. He started pounding on the window.

“What blind date? Nina, get out here!!”

Maverick didn’t say a word. Just got in the driver’s seat.

VROOOM.

He hit the gas. The car shot forward, and Lincoln-totally unprepared-ate pavement.

I saw Chelsea rush over to help him up in the rearview mirror, He shoved her off, stumbled to his feet, and tried to chase us. Then he tripped and fell again.

Chapter 4

I closed my eyes.

Goodbye, LA.

Goodbye, Lincoln Sterling.

Without you, whether I’m lonely or living it up-

I know I’ll be better off.
