Chapter 250 Stepping In
If she didn’t help, at the rate they were going, it would take years for anything to happen.
Jackson looked at Natalie helplessly. “Let’s go.”
Natalie followed him, walking stiffly, as if she were afraid to make a sound.

Just as they reached the elevator, Leon saw them. The sight of Natalie with another man sent him into a blind rage. He had been working
himself to death over the company, and she was
othe
out here picking up men.
He stormed over, grabbed Natalie’s wrist, and slapped her hard across the face. “Natalie! I’m at the office killing myself over this project, and you’re out here sleeping around? You may have no shame, but I do! Have you had enough of this game? Is this ‘playing hard to get’ act over? If
is in this mess because of your brother, and you’re
it is, get back to the office. My company shall
going to fix it!”
Natalie was stunned by the slap. She struggled to break free. “Leon, your company is in this mess because of you. I told you before, I was the one secretly bringing in all your clients. Now that I’m done with you, they’re pulling their contracts. The second your company got successful, you got arrogant and decided to toss me aside. The world doesn’t work that way.”
As she spoke, she snuck a glance at Jackson, terrified of making a bad impression.
Jackson stepped forward and punched Leon square in the face. “You’re a grown man, and you’re hitting a woman in public? You’re a disgrace. The second something goes wrong, you blame everyone but yourself. You’re pathetic.”
He had heard about Natalie’s situation from Tracy, so he had a general idea. He had to admit, he felt for her. Seeing her get hit, his first instinct was just to protect her.
Leon spit out a mouthful of blood and glared at Jackson. “I suggest you mind your own business. You’re just one of her boy toys. She’s a rich heiress; she plays these games. Her family has more than enough money to keep a few pretty boys on the side. You’re just one of them. What are you so proud of? I’m the one she’s in love with. She was willing to defy her entire family for me. You really think she’s over me that fast?”
If I had known she was the Sand family heiress, he thought, I never would have kicked her out. She had kept it a secret, claiming she was the one bringing in clients. But now, it was obvious. This was just a game to make him jealous.
Natalie couldn’t take it anymore. “Leon, you are shameless!” she screamed, tears streaming down her face.
She was shaking with rage. How could she have ever been involved with someone so disgusting?

Now he was clinging to her, spouting all this nonsense. She was so afraid of what Jackson must be thinking.
Jackson pulled the trembling Natalie behind him and fixed Leon with a sharp gaze. “I know exactly who she is. I don’t need you to ‘warn’ me. You probably don’t know, but I’m her boyfriend now. That makes you the ex. I suggest you stop harassing her. Otherwise, I will hit you every single time I see you. Try me.”
Natalie looked up at Jackson. She knew he was just saying it to protect her, but her heart swelled with warmth. Aside from her father and brother, no one had ever stood up for her like this.
In her three years with Leon, he had always been condescending and chauvinistic. He had a terrible temper and would yell at her for the smallest thing, even in front of his friends. Afterward, he would sweet-talk her, brainwashing her into believing it was “normal” for a man to need to save face, and that she shouldn’t be so sensitive. Because she loved him, she had endured it, again and again. But all she got in return was more pain. He had openly brought his old flame into their office, testing her limits
her limits time and again.
She was so done.
Leon’s chest heaved. He pointed a shaking finger at Jackson. “You… you just wait!”
After Leon had stormed off, Natalie looked at Jackson gratefully. “Jackson, thank you for stepping in. I don’t know how to thank you.”
If he hadn’t been there, given Leon’s explosive temper, she knew it would have been much worse. It was true: a man will never remember the thousand good things you did, only the one narrative that suits him. It was disgusting.
Jackson just smiled. “It was nothing. Don’t worry about it.”
