Tracy stood frozen for a second before looking at Jared like he was a complete idiot. “Is that the latest lie Yvonne fed you? You’re claiming I attacked Chase? Then show me the proof. If you don’t have evidence, keep your mouth shut. You’re embarrassing yourself. The night he was attacked, I was literally being kidnapped. Do I have a twin I don’t know about? Jared, if you had half a brain, you wouldn’t let a woman lead you around by the nose. The security cameras at the villa were sabotaged, so maybe use what’s left of your gray matter to figure out who actually did that.”
These morons were tireless when it came to pinning things on her. Their collective EQ and IQ seemed to hover somewhere near zero.
Ever since they were kids, no matter what went wrong in the Xander household, Yvonne would find a way to make Tracy the scapegoat while keeping her own hands clean. And these idiots fell for it every single time.
Tracy walked a few paces away, then stopped and looked back over her shoulder. ‘One more thing. Quincy is just a fall girl. Yvonne is the one who called the hit. Think about it, Quincy’s family is broke. Where would she get the cash to hire professional killers? Use that water-logged brain of yours to think, and you might actually see the light.”
She turned and left, leaving him to chew on that. Whether he figured it out or not didn’t matter to her anymore; her only goal was to ruin his peace of mind. Yvonne had crossed the line one too many times. Did she really think Tracy wouldn’t bite back?
Jared blocked her path again. “Tracy, if you’re going to lie, you need evidence. What possible reason would Yvonne have to hire a hitman? She has no motive!”
He desperately wanted to believe the sister he’d pampered since childhood wasn’t a monster. But deep down, he knew Tracy’s logic was sound. As the victim, Tracy had no reason to lie to him now.
The only explanation was that Yvonne had done it all and framed Tracy for the fallout. And he had been the fool who believed her. But as a man of immense pride, he couldn’t bring himself to admit just how blind and biased he had been.

“You want a motive?” Tracy pulled a folded document from her bag and slapped it against his chest. “I found out Yvonne isn’t a Xander. She’s a bastard Faye had with some other man. They tried to kill me to keep me quiet. Got it now? That’s the real Yvonne. A snake who shifts the blame the second things get messy. It must be a great feeling, isn’t it? Ruining your own flesh-and-blood sister to protect a fraud.”
Jared grabbed the DNA report. His eyes widened as he scanned the results, his face draining of color.
It couldn’t be.
The sister he had doted on his entire life was a stranger’s child. The irony was suffocating. The evidence was irrefutable, and as he closed his eyes in pain, the weight of his own actions began to crush him.
What have I done?
His heart felt like it was being held over a flame, a slow, agonizing realization of his own betrayal.
Tracy didn’t wait for a response. She shoved past him and walked away. She didn’t care about his regrets or his breakdown. She had spent years starving for their affection, and it had nearly killed her. Now, she was done. She was living for herself.

Jared stayed in the restroom for a long time. He splashed ice-cold water on his face, trying to numb the shock, before finally stepping back into the ballroom.
The first thing he saw was Yvonne, draped over Chandler’s arm, laughing and chatting with a group of socialites.
A few hours ago, he would have thought they looked like a perfect match. Now, they just looked like two shameless, pathetic cheaters.
Yvonne wasn’t even family. She had tried to murder his sister to hide her secret. He wanted nothing more than to tear off her mask right then and there, but he forced himself to hold back.
