Chapter 164 A Father Walks Into the Lion’s Den

Of course, they weren’t satisfied with how things were going. They decided to call Jenny’s father and put more pressure on him.

Jenny nodded quickly, her hands trembling as she gave them Raymond’s phone number.

In her mind, her mom wouldn’t dare call the police. She would try to pay the ransom, hoping money could fix everything.

But Jenny knew better, it would led to disaster.

If the kidnappers called Raymond, there was a chance for her to survive this. He might report it.

In deals like this, they usually demanded a video call to prove the hostage was alive.

If Raymond saw her face, he would call the police.

Right now, that was the only plan Jenny could cling to. She hope her mother would gather the money and stall, while Raymond stepped in and alerted the authorities.

Still, no matter how she turned it over in her mind, her chances of survival felt painfully small.

She felt cornered, as if every possible ending led to the same place.

Jenny had cried until there her tears went dried. All that remained was a deep, quiet fear of the unknown.

Memories flooded her thoughts without warning. She even pictured her mother after her death —heartbroken, alone-and the image made her chest tighten.

While Jenny waited in restless fear, the news she expected never came. Instead of hearing that her mom had gathered the money, someone else showed up first.

Raymond.

He came alone, carrying nothing but a suitcase. After a quick check, the criminal gang let him through. He entered the school and was escorted all the way to the negotiation spot.

There, he ran into two old acquaintances.

“Oh, it’s you,” Raymond said, his tone calm and steady. His eyes swept the room. It didn’t look like just one deal had taken place here.

The faint smell of blood still hung in the air, no one had cleaned up the scene.

His gaze shifted to Jenny.

On his way here, he had asked for a video call. When he saw Jenny’s face on the screen, he didn’t recognize her at all.

Well, not at first.

After thinking for a while, it came back to him. She had been to his house once. She had even greeted him.

What was her name again?

Jelly?

Raymond didn’t care enough to help Jenny. He wasn’t here for her.

He came for Maya.

Compared to his sons, Maya’s identity was far more sensitive. She could easily become the main target.

And from what he had seen on his way in, the situation was worse than he expected.

The security system had collapsed. The campus had turned into a playground for armed criminals. People moved in and out with guns, grabbing whoever they wanted.

Raymond didn’t make any sudden moves. Instead, he played along, acting like a worried father who had came with money to buy his child back.

Once he was inside, he decided to talk to someone he knew.

“So the school you’ve been talking about attacking this whole time is Harmony International School,” Raymond said as he stepped into the room, sounding as casual as if he were chatting about the weather.

The two men in charge of the deal narrowed their eyes.

They had never heard anyone speak to them like that.

But the moment they got a clear look at his face, their annoyance melted instantly.

“Boss?”

“Raymond?”

The two questions came out at the same time, filled with shock.

Raymond lifted a hand in greeting. “Long time no see.”

He looked at them thoughtfully, as if confirming something. “So it really is you.”

It was hard to believe. Completely unreal.

The kidnappers exchanged a look. The cold expressions on their faces quickly turned into fake warmth.

One of them stepped forward, acting friendly. “Hey, what brings you here? You finally leave your family and join us?”

Raymond smiled. He opened his briefcase and calmly loaded his gun. “If I remember right, we haven’t talked in, what, over ten years? I’m guessing you’ve found new people to follow by now.”

“No way,” the other man said quickly, shaking his head. “Working under Horus is just for fun. Compared to him, we prefer to follow you.”

The second man nodded hard, looking at Raymond like a fan meeting his idol.

Off to the side, Jenny swallowed quietly.

Wasn’t Maya’s dad just some office worker?

Why did he know these people?

No matter what, this felt like a sudden turn of luck for her.

The pain in her head seemed to fade. Her thoughts cleared. All her fear and sadness slipped away for a moment. She stared wide-eyed as they talked, feeling a little dazed.

In her mind, Raymond had always been the kind of man who got pushed around by life.

But now, he stood there, chatting easily with two dangerous kidnappers.

And those kidnappers were looking at him with respect.

Jenny felt like her whole world had flipped upside down.

“Why pick this school?” Raymond looked around the place. It was packed with communication gear and surveillance screens.

His eyes swept across the equipment before settling back on the two men. “With all this effort, you might as well rob a bank.”

One of them grinned. “A lot of rich families send their kids here. Not just local ones, there are plenty from overseas too. Every single one comes from money.”

Then he quickly added, trying to please him, “But don’t worry, boss. We didn’t touch your kid.
