Chapter 51
The women blink at me in shock, their gazes then turning to Bianca as if seeking an explanation. Bianca stutters, attempting to bounce back before she begins to awkwardly laugh.
“Excuse us,” Bianca says, dismissing the women. They both humor her, fleeing away but making sure to share whispers as they go.
“Kane,” Bianca purrs my name once they’re gone.
“Why are you taking credit for planning?” I ask her, my stare clipping to her.
Again, Bianca struggles for words before she’s able to collect herself. She leans towards me, placing a hand against my chest.
“I thought you’d want me to,” she insists sweetly. “Just to make things easier, considering what happened yesterday.”
My brows pull together, studying her pout.
“It was nothing. Just let it go,” she insists, fiddling with my dress shirt. “I can’t get over how handsome you look right now. Then again, you always look handsome.”
I ignore her flirting, nor do I comment on her own looks despite her obvious efforts. She’s trying to deflect, distract me from how she tried to take credit for Evelyn’s work.
I open my mouth to question her further, but I don’t manage to speak as the main door sweeps open in a flourish.
“The Alpha King has arrived!” someone announces and I turn along with the other guests to see the man walking into the room. Only, he is not alone.
I stiffen as I notice the woman at his side, her arm linked with his as they walk in together.
Evelyn.
Why would she be accompanying him? Did she not consider the flags it would raise since she chose not to arrive with me?
That doesn’t seem to be her concern as she walks in, a gentle smile set across her red painted lips.
At the Alpha King’s other side is Alexander who also appears somewhat smug. The sight of his smile makes my blood run hot. However, my eyes flick back to Evelyn.
I can’t help but notice how amused she looks as she strides in with the Alpha King, It occurs to me that it’s likely because of the utter shock she has caused throughout the room. Everyone regards her with surprise and confusion.
Some of my pack even have anger in their eyes, including the woman beside me, Bianca looks absolutely livid as her hand squeezes my arm harder.
Meanwhile, the Alpha King looks pleased, perhaps ignorantly so.
I step forward, feeling Bianca’s hand on me as she gives a small tug to stop me. However, I glance back at her, causing her to instantly release me as she notes the heat in my gaze,
Free of her touch, I make my way toward them, trying to weave through the crowd that no longer steps out of my way. They seem to be too distracted by the Alpha King’s arrival.
“This is spectacular,” I hear the Alpha King’s loud voice state. “The room looks wonderful and so does the food.

My eyes flick to Evelyn, noting the smile on her face. It causes a stir in my chest as I note the dimples in her cheeks, the framing curls of her long, blonde hair.
She’s beautiful – exceptionally beautiful. The sensation in my chest grows, trailing down into my stomach before it continues to expand.
The warmth inside of me is hot, burning. Without my permission, arousal courses through me, becoming worse as my wolf’s desire is awakened.
Closer, my wolf groans. His demand causes me to curse the mating bond and how it makes yearn for Evelyn’s touch, stare.
Control yourself, I tell him. But he gives an amused hum in return.
Speak for yourself, he replies in a rumble. Remember, I can feel your arousal too.
Again, I scold him, and yet I can’t help my draw to Evelyn as I grow closer. My body longs to go to her despite my better judgment, and I have to force myself to stay away as I stop in front of the Alpha King.
I keep my shoulders back, standing straight as I make sure to put on a show. I even force my own smile.
“Alpha King,” I say in greeting. “Glad you could join us.”
“Kane,” the King replies warmly, giving me a pat on the back. “I was just saying how amazing everything looks. I’m impressed.”
I nod, my eyes then straying to Evelyn. Her face is now blank as she stares back, both of us silently taking the
other in.
“I see you’ve been keeping my wife from me,” I say lightly, glancing back at the King.
“I hope you know you can’t take her with you when you leave.”
