Chapter 63
Evelyn’s POV
To say that I slept terribly would be an understatement. I practically tossed and turned all night long. I made sure to put on an extra layer of concealer this morning to hide the dark circles under my eyes.
Now, I’m ready to be out of my room and make myself busy in order to distract myself from my annoyance with Kane. I figure the best place to start is with breakfast, bringing me to the dining room where many others are already gathered.
As soon as I walk in through the door, I can’t help but notice how the room grows quieter, many pairs of eyes turning in my direction. I’m startled, but don’t let it deter me as I walk through the room, beginning to hear the whispers from the surrounding tables.
“Did you see the picture?”
“Of course I saw it.”
“They kissed! I can’t believe it.”
“Based on how tired she looks, I think they did more than just kiss.”
That last comment makes my eyes widen as I reach the table with the bagels. I take one, beginning to cover it with cream cheese.
“I didn’t know our Alpha was so romantic.”
“Do you think he really likes her?”
I want to laugh at that last comment, but I resist the urge as I finish prepping my bagel. I turn, going to go find a table by myself – just like I do every morning. I spot one in the corner, causing me to head over and take a seat.
However, I’m not alone for long. I’m not even able to take a bite of my food before two women come up to my table, offering smiles.
“We saw the picture online this morning,” one of them offers.
“The date looked so lovely,” the other states.
“Oh, and we loved your dress!”
I’m shocked by their kindness, not sure how to react as no one has really been nice to me since I’ve been here. Plus, I know this was the point of the photo. Even despite how much of an ass Kane is, the photo is at least tricking some people.
“T-thanks,” I offer. The women don’t leave, still excited as they seem like they may even sit with me. However, they don’t get the chance as a familiar and annoying voice calls over.
“Too bad the whole thing was fake,” Bianca announces loudly, earning everyone’s attention as she walks over. She smugly smiles down at me as she crosses her arms.
The girls blink at her, baffled by Bianca’s sudden claim.
“Isn’t that right, Evelyn?” Bianca taunts. I reply by narrowing my eyes at her.
“What are you talking about?” one of the women asks.

“They’re not actually kissing in the photo,” Bianca explains. “It just looks like. Plus, the whole thing was staged just to get the photo. Kane told me so.”
The women continue to take in Bianca’s claims, clearly stunned. As do I as I consider what Bianca’s saying.
If Kane had told her about the fake kiss and photo, then she’d most likely talked to him last night. She’d been in his room last night, probably stopping in right after I’d left.
Wow. Kane sure works fast. He didn’t waste a second to welcome Bianca right back into his bed.
But then again…I hadn’t felt any discomfort from our mating bond. Sure, I hadn’t slept well, but it hadn’t been because I was in pain.
I press that thought into the back of my mind as Bianca continues on.
“You all don’t actually believe that Kane wants her, do you?” she asks everyone in the room. “He doesn’t care about her at all! He’s just using her so he can protect the pack. That’s what a strong Alpha does.”
There are murmurs around the room as others seem to agree. As I glance around, I note the intensity that now fills others’ gazes as they regard me once more with disgust and prejudice.
“And she’s just a weak wolf. I don’t even know if you can even call her a wolf,” Bianca says with a laugh.” Eventually, Kane won’t need her anymore and he’ll get rid of her. One way or another, she’ll lose her title as Luna.”
People seem to enjoy this, accepting and believing Bianca’s words as they laugh and some even cheer. All of the praise and boost in my reputation that I’d received from my efforts at the banquet are quickly torn away, cast aside as if it never happened.
I quietly sigh, the breath somewhat shaky as I feel the weight of everyone’s stares, Bianca’s words, and last night’s events all sitting on my shoulders.
