Chapter 71
Kane’s POV
I shake my head as I listen to Henri give another update on the rogue wolves who managed to flee the scene of a crime last night – this time setting a building on fire. At least I can be grateful that no one was hurt, but the fact that the rogues are still out there annoys the fuck out of me.
“We need more surveillance around downtown,” I state pointedly. “Or maybe just the town in general. Fuck. Garrick, make sure cameras are installed on every corner if you have to.”
The wolf off to my left nods, making a note. I have faith that they’ll actually make it happen – Garrick’s tech knowledge is admirable.
“As for long-term plans,” I continue, sighing. “There has been no progress on a larger call-to-action, but I’m still pushing for us to go to war. These rogues need to be eliminated. I will be sure to update you if anything progresses.”
The others nod, and I bring the meeting to a close. Pack members begin to rise from their seats, but stop as Bianca’s voice carries over the room.
“Oh, I almost forgot,” she begins. “I just want to remind you all that tonight is the big graduation celebration for our pack youth. You know, the big project Evelyn decided to take on? I’m sure it’s going to be wonderful, so make sure you don’t miss it.”
People thank Bianca for the invitation, insisting they’ll try to make it. Meanwhile, Bianca wears a smug smile, as if enjoying her own private joke.
I glance over to the seat beside me – the one intended for Luna. It has been empty for the last two weeks while Evelyn has been out, helping the kids prepare for their performance. Since we don’t share a room anymore either, I’ve barely seen her.
It’s usually just in passing or a quick glimpse. She’s clearly had her hands full, but I’m not sure what to expect from tonight’s performance.
“Hey,” Bianca says, gaining my attention as she drops herself down into the Luna seat.
“Bianca – “I begin.
“You’re going tonight, right?” she asks swiftly, her hand reaching out to fiddle with the front of my shirt.
“Yes, I am,” I reply plainly.
“Good,” she says, clearly pleased. “But try not to be too harsh on dear old Evelyn. I heard through the grapevine that there have been a few problems in rehearsals. Apparently she rules with an iron fist.”
I raise a brow. Despite how Evelyn doesn’t back down whenever I challenge her, I don’t see her being firm and cruel with kids. However, I say nothing as Bianca stands.
“See you tonight,” she practically sings. She still smiles coyly as she makes her way out of the room.
Once the evening arrives, I drive to the recreation center by myself. As I pull into the parking lot, I raise a brow, surprised by how many cars there are. I’ve never seen this kind of turn out for any of the graduation performances.
I’m not sure what to make of the crowd of people heading in – the members of my pack seemingly eager for the

night’s performance. Still, I follow them along with them, making my way inside.
As I reach the space for the performance, I find that almost every seat is filled. Why the hell are there so many people here? This is just meant to be a small affair.
I glance around the room, studying the crowd of faces until my gaze lands on Bianca. She’s across the room, that smug smile across her face as she talks with a few other women. However, as if sensing my stare, her eyes snap to mine and her smile turns sultry.
Within moments, she has crossed the room and stands at my side.
“Quite the turnout, huh?” Bianca says.
“More than I’ve ever seen…,” I trail out, taking in the crowd once more. People passing by offer smiles and greetings, showing their respect.
“Well, I did send out a mass invite,” Bianca admits.
My head turns in her direction. “You… did this?” I ask her.
“Yep,” she says happily. “I figured everyone should witness tonight’s performance. I’m sure it will be quite the show.”
I’m taken aback by Bianca’s words, thrown off by just how elated and pleased she seems. There’s clearly something going on – I refuse to believe Bianca’s invites were a means to support Evelyn.
