Chapter 719
Two more days passed, and it was the weekend again.
Since Trevor still had work to handle, Jordyn stayed with Celeste at the Rodriguez residence.
Trevor had told Jordyn to visit Lincoln at the hospital whenever she had time. So, after breakfast on Saturday, Celeste accompanied her there.
Lincoln happened to be awake when they arrived. He smiled faintly when he saw them. “Cel, Jo, you’re
here.”
Celeste nodded, and Jordyn obediently called out, “Grandpa.”
Lincoln’s condition still wasn’t very good, so Celeste didn’t let him talk too much.
After that, they went to the other room to visit Queenie as well. However, they didn’t stay long before
leaving.
Martha had become increasingly devout over the years. So, she had specifically gone to pray for the safety of Lincoln and Queenie.
Now that Lincoln’s condition had stabilized, Martha asked Celeste to accompany her to pray again on
Sunday. 1
Celeste brought Jordyn along and went to pray with Martha.
Because of what happened to her mother, Celeste had been accompanying Betty to the area to pray each year. So, she was quite familiar with the surroundings.
After accompanying Martha, while Jordyn was in the restroom, Martha looked at Celeste and said, “Cel, if Lincoln hadn’t gotten into that accident, you and Trevor would’ve been divorced, right?” 1
Celeste didn’t expect her to suddenly bring that up. So, she just nodded and hummed a soft reply.
Martha hesitated for a moment, but still spoke. “Cel, I know this is a little unreasonable, but could you promise me to wait for another month before finalizing the divorce with Trevor?” 2
Celeste froze for a moment.
Martha then continued, “Lincoln and Queenie had just practically walked through death’s door. If you and Trevor divorce now, it wouldn’t be very auspicious. I know these may just be superstitions, but…”
When Lincoln had first regained consciousness a few days ago, Celeste had genuinely thought that his condition had stabilized.
It wasn’t until the wound near Lincoln’s heart reopened and he had to undergo two more emergency surgeries that Celeste realized the good news she and Martha had heard earlier had only been a white lie from Trevor.
At that time, although Lincoln’s condition had improved, he was not really out of danger.

Because of this, Martha had visibly lost a lot of weight and seemed to have aged considerably in just a matter of days.

Martha felt somewhat guilty; tears were shimmering in the corners of her eyes. “Thank you, Cel. I’m putting you in a difficult position.”
Celeste replied, “It’s okay, Grandma. This is nothing.” 1
Although there was some reluctance in her eyes, Martha still smiled and said, “I heard that Matthias is a very good young man. He and you seem very well matched. I would like to invite you and him to dinner sometime.”
Martha had never directly asked about Celeste and Matthias. But she had heard some of the rumors. And from what she could see, Celeste had already moved on from her feelings for Trevor.
So, she had assumed that the relationship between Celeste and Matthias was real. 4
