Chapter 171
Kane’s POV
Whether Michael knew it or not, he’d provided a lot more information than he realized. Simply knowing the ideal number of rogues gave us an advantage. Now, we knew how many soldiers had to be recruited
when the time came.
That evening, I wrote out my official letter to the Alpha King. Time was running out. And given the most recent developments, I had a great deal to inform him of, which was going to likely work in my favor.
I made sure to include the capacity in which Evelyn had integrated herself within the pack. How she managed to not only identify the leading cause behind the feral wolves’ erratic behavior, but also how she developed a special serum that could essentially cure the effects of Wolfsbane poisoning.
I knew the Alpha king had been avoiding the idea of war for a while. After all, battles like these weren’t cheap-not to mention the unwanted casualties that were bound to occur.
But, the way I saw it, there was just too much of a risk pushing the issue off any further. Evelyn was right; the number of rogues had escalated beyond anyone’s comprehension.
Under normal circumstances, four hundred rogues were nothing to be concerned about; however, one feral rogue could take down three normal soldiers.
For a brief moment, I pulled my eyes away from my letter to find Evelyn in her own work corner, scribbling away in one of her notepads. She had a lot she needed to add to her case study since developing a successful serum.
But even from across the room, I could tell that she was tense. I wish I could properly comfort her and assure her that everything was going to work out. But…
I wasn’t entirely sure of that myself.
From what I’ve been observing from her, something was deeply troubling her. I knew that she was concerned about the upcoming battle. Or was it something else?
A gentle knock on the door told me that Henir and the rest of our team had gathered for our much- needed meeting.
Evelyn placed her own work off to the side for the time being and turned her attention to the rest of us.
They all bowed their heads in respect. “Alpha Kane.”
“Tell me honestly, how confident do you feel in our soldiers at this very moment?” I asked one of my
head officers.
“Honestly? They’re fit for battle-a normal battle, that is,” he pointed out.
I pinched the bridge of my nose and exhaled. “Well, it’s been made rather clear that this wouldn’t be a ‘ normal’ battle as you well put it,” I said crossly. “We’re not going up against mere rogues. These bastards

are feral! And based on the information we were just told, we’re looking at potentially four hundred infected, feral rogues.”
The whole fell silent. All the blood drained out of Henri’s face. “Four hundred?” he questioned. “But our neighboring packs reported witnessing a little over a hundred.”
Evelyn stepped forward. “That may be the only silver lining we have. We don’t exactly know how many wolves have been given the injection. If you recall from our studies down in the archives, Wolfsbane is not the easiest thing to come by. Even if whoever is behind this abstained from the black market, they still wouldn’t have been given a lot of it.”
“Wait, what do you mean by ‘the information you were just told”?” one of the head officers inquired.
“Yes, that brings me to my second highlight of this meeting,” I said. “Thanks to your brilliant Luna, we now have a serum that can draw out the effects of Wolfsbane.”
With the exception of Henri, they all turned their heads to gape at Evelyn.
“The rogue we tested the serum on, his system had been completely drained of all traces of Wolfsbane. Kane and I spoke for a little while. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to fess up a lot of information regarding the ones responsible for the poisoned injections,” she told them.
