Soon, the car slowly pulled away.
Jordyn hadn’t come to the hospital today to pick up Lincoln. Martha had naturally noticed that from the very beginning.
It was just that she had been too angry to question Trevor about it earlier.
Today was Lincoln’s discharge day, and it was also a Saturday. Logically, Jordyn shouldn’t have been absent. And there was only one likely reason if she wasn’t here.
Martha got even angrier as she thought of that while in the car. She turned to Trevor with obvious fury.
“You brought her here but didn’t even tell Jo that her grandfather’s getting discharged today?” 1
Trevor remained calm. “Jo went to participate in a fencing tournament. It was scheduled long ago.”
Martha choked on her words. But soon after, she let out a cold snort. “If Jo had been here today, that would’ve worked out perfectly for you.”
Her meaning was simple.
If Jordyn had been present, it would’ve been harder for her to openly criticize Wynn in front of the child. After all, Martha wouldn’t be able to argue with Trevor, no matter how angry she was, if Jordyn defended Wynn.
She would have no choice but to suppress her anger until they got home.
Furthermore, Wynn really might have ended up returning to the Fleming manor with them.
Before Trevor could reply, Martha suddenly seemed to think of something. “Wait-was Cel taking Jo to her tournament?”

Just as she was about to get into her own car, she turned around and spotted Matthias standing not far away.
She paused and immediately understood that he had seen her just now with the Fleming family. Curling her lips into a polite smile, she greeted him, “Mr. Yoder.”
Matthias pursed his lips, ignored her entirely, and turned to get into his car.

He immediately called Celeste after getting in. “What are you doing?”
Celeste replied, “Taking Jo to a fencing tournament.”
Matthias gave a humorless laugh when he heard that. “So, Mr. Fleming got discharged today?”
After humming a response, Celeste asked, “You ran into them?”
“Yeah, Wynn was there too.”
Matthias then let out a scoff. “You’re bringing your daughter to a competition, while he brought his mistress to the hospital to pick his father up. Trevor really is something.” 2
Actually, Celeste had already guessed Wynn was probably there too the moment Matthias mentioned running into Trevor and his family.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have specifically called her.
However, Matthias continued before Celeste could say anything. “Judging from the situation, Trevor probably intended to take Wynn straight back to the manor with them if Mrs. Fleming Senior hadn’t looked so unhappy.”
Celeste remained calm. “Mm, that’s their business.” 5
Something like that was bound to happen sooner or later anyway.
Matthias understood the unspoken meaning behind Celeste’s words. It was just that he felt indignant on her behalf. 1
