Chapter 78-3

“Actually, the more time we spent together, the less snarky he became. He started to patch the holes in me. Morven made a couple more, but I’m going to be okay. We’re going to be okay.”

Damn right we were. I’d conquer the whole fucking mountain to make sure that she was okay.

I kissed her head again, but this time, she tilted her face up to me. My heart stopped. Her hand came up, soft against my cheek, and when her lips lifted to mine, I nearly lost it.

The first brush of her mouth was gentle, too gentle for the wildfire roaring through me. Every instinct screamed to devour her, to pull her under me, to pour every ounce of my need into her until she knew, until there was no doubt in her body, her soul, that she was mine. But I held back, kissing her like a man standing at the edge of a cliff, shaking from the need to fall.

Her taste wrecked me. My hand slid into her hair, holding her there, deepening the kiss just enough to feel the spark ignite. I wanted to sink inside her, to lose myself in her until there was nothing left but us. Nothing could break us apart, because I’d never fucking let it.

Instead, I forced myself to tear away from her mouth, even though every muscle in me screamed to keep kissing her. Her soft frown nearly unraveled my already fraying resolve.

“I’m not going to break, Troy.” she whispered, her breath warm against my lips.

You’re,” I murmured, brushing my thumb along her jaw, “but these walls are too damn thin. When I take you, Kiana, I want privacy. I want the freedom to hear you scream my name until your voice is gone.” My voice dropped, thick with need. “I don’t want to hold back with you.”

Her lips curved, a shaky laugh slipping out. “Well, that’s not helping,” she teased, sliding off my lap though her eyes lingered on mine with heat. “I guess I should finish dinner, so I have the strength to handle you when we’re…alone.”

Every word was gasoline on the fire raging inside me. Wordlessly, I grabbed her soup, pressing it into her hands because if I opened my mouth, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stop myself from dragging her back into me.

She lifted the spoon and took a bite, then another, and I watched her throat work as she swallowed, thinking of far too many ways I wanted that mouth occupied.

She’d barely finished her food before there was a knock a few doors down. Muted through the walls, I heard a stranger’s voice. Instantly, I was on my feet and pressed against the outside door

so I could hear better.

Finn was talking to him. “Can I help you?”

“I’m Officer Jones, and this is my partner, Officer Whalen. We’re looking for a missing woman,

possibly endangered, matching the description of someone seen entering one of these rooms. Do

you mind if we take a look around?”

Kiana frowned. “What is it?” She whispered.

“Morven got the police involved. He reported you as a missing person.”
