News just reached me that Damien had returned to their pack territory. That could only mean one thing – they wanted another meeting.

Sneaking in and out of this military compound had become second nature after extensive practice. Even with the doubled guard rotations, I knew every blind spot and patrol route by heart. Getting out wasn’t what had my stomach twisted in knots.
Meeting Elena alone had been nerve–wracking enough. But now Damien would be there too. The guy towered over everyone and had this intimidating presence that made seasoned soldiers step back. I’d heard enough stories about him to know he wasn’t someone you wanted as an enemy.
My training taught me to eliminate werewolves without hesitation. But I wouldn’t be carrying any weapons tonight. The last thing I needed was for them to see me as a threat. This had to be about Dawn – getting her away from Gardner and that bastard Fletcher.
The thought of facing Damien terrified me. This was his daughter we were talking about, his little girl who’d been ripped away from her family. And I wasn’t even bringing her with me to this meeting.
For one thing, Dawn would never come willingly. If I somehow convinced her, she’d probably try to put bullets in both of them before hearing a word they had to say. She’d been programmed too well to hate their kind.
Besides that, sneaking two people out of a heavily fortified base was nearly impossible, even for someone with my experience.
When everything was ready, I slipped out of the dormitory and moved through the compound like a ghost. Extensive practice paid off as I reached the forest perimeter without a single guard spotting me.

The easy part was behind me now. Ahead lay the real challenge – navigating through dense woodland to reach the dirt road where I’d hidden a vehicle.
I’d deliberately placed the car a considerable walk from the base. Any closer and the patrol units would discover it during their sweeps. They’d impound anything that didn’t belong, and I needed reliable transportation now more
than ever.
The drive to our designated meeting spot felt longer than usual. My hands gripped the steering wheel tighter as scenarios played through my mind. What if Damien decided I was lying? What if they thought this was some kind of trap?
I’d barely been waiting a few minutes when footsteps approached from behind. Spinning around, I found both Elena and Damien standing there like they’d materialized from thin air.
How the hell did people that massive move so quietly? Standing next to Damien made me feel like a child, even though I stood six–foot–one and carried two hundred pounds of solid muscle. His frame dwarfed mine completely, every inch radiating dangerous power.
“You know where my daughter is?” Damien’s voice cut straight to the point.
“Yeah. We’ve been friends for a while now,” I answered, trying to keep my voice steady.
“You told my wife she’s in danger. What kind of danger are we talking about?” His eyes bored into mine, searching for any sign of deception.
“She’s being abused, and it won’t stop until someone gets her out. They’ve classified her as a lifer, which means even when she reaches adulthood, they’re not letting her walk away. She belongs to the supernatural hunters permanently.”
“How exactly is she being abused?” Her voice was suddenly sharp with maternal alarm.
“Our trainer, Fletcher. He has special methods for making his pet projects

obey orders.” The words tasted bitter in my mouth.
Both werewolves released low, threatening growls that made my blood run cold. They understood perfectly what I meant, and neither liked the implications.
“You can’t just charge in there guns blazing,” I warned quickly. “Security’s been doubled because they’ve intercepted communications from several packs threatening to attack the facility.” I watched their expressions carefully. “You two wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?”
“We heard some packs were planning to send the hunters a message. Wasn’t sure what they had in mind,” Elena replied.
“Well, whatever it was definitely caught my Captain’s attention. He’s not scared yet, but he’s taking precautions.”
“He’ll learn to be afraid once he realizes the mistake he made messing with my family,” Damien promised, his voice carrying lethal certainty.
“She’s not in immediate physical danger right now,” I continued. “But if we don’t move soon, I’m worried about what she might do to herself.”
“You think she’s suicidal?” Her tone changed, becoming fiercely protective.
“I honestly don’t know. I’m probably her closest friend in that place, but she’s struggling. Especially during Fletcher’s training sessions.” The memory of Dawn’s haunted expression after those sessions made my chest tighten.
“We’ll figure out a plan. When we make our move, we’re going to need your help,” Damien stated.
“I’ll do whatever it takes to get Dawn out of there alive. Anything you need from me, you’ve got it.”
“You were right,” Damien said, glancing at his wife. “Kid’s definitely in love with her.”
“What’s not to love? You’ll understand when you meet her.”

“If she’s anything like her mother, I already do,” Damien replied with surprising gentleness.
“I still don’t see how you’re going to penetrate the base’s defenses,” I admitted.
“Leave that to us. This is what we do, what we’ve always done. We’ve been at this game longer than you’ve been alive,” Elena assured me.
“I know your reputations. During training, they constantly drill us on tactics specifically designed to take you two down.”
“Good luck with that,” Damien smirked, radiating confidence.
“You might have a base full of soldiers, but human loyalty has limits. Look at yourself as proof. Pack loyalty runs deeper than anything humans understand. When an Alpha leads warriors into battle, every single one follows without question,” Elena explained.
“The instructors taught us about werewolf pack dynamics. They want us prepared for any supernatural encounters.”
“Your people have no clue what they’ve gotten themselves into. But Captain Gardner and Fletcher are about to get a very painful education,” Damien promised.
“They made their choice when they decided to mess with our family,” Elena added.
Standing there between these two legendary fighters, I realized I might have just triggered a war. The thought of all the bloodshed that could follow weighed on me heavily. But then I remembered Dawn’s broken expression after her last session with Fletcher, and my resolve hardened. Gardner and Fletcher had brought this on themselves. They’d kept an innocent girl prisoner and allowed her to be tortured. Whatever happened next, they deserved every bit of it.
