167 Chapter 167 Target Wayfinders Pack
Marcus’s POV 1
“You bet he does. You all have to beat her record now,” Corbin announced with a grin.
Nico lay sprawled on the ground, looking like death warmed over. The sight was actually pretty entertaining.
Here was this guy who never shut up about how tough he was, completely destroyed by a girl. So much for all that bravado.
“Suck it, Nico,” Dawn shouted from where she was still catching her breath.
“Screw you,” he managed to wheeze out with zero conviction.
“Alright, you two are up next. Let these two recover,” Corbin commanded.
Koa and I tackled the obstacle course, turning it into our own little competition, but neither of us came close to that twelve–minute mark.
Dawn was in a league of her own.
When training finally wrapped up for the day, we headed to the mess hall for dinner. I noticed Dawn always claimed the same spot at the far end of the table, isolated from everyone else.
I deliberately chose the seat directly across from her and started eating.
“So what’s the deal with those girls always shooting you death glares?” I asked, nodding toward the group of female recruits.
She just lifted her shoulders in a casual shrug.
“Beats me. I only arrived the day before you did. Still the new girl, I guess. Plus I think they’re jealous that you’re paying attention to me instead of them,” she said with brutal honesty.
“They can deal with it. I’m not interested in talking to them anyway. They all

look like total jerks,” I replied.
She let out a short laugh.
“Starting to think you’re right about that,” she agreed.
We finished eating quickly and headed back to the barracks. In the communal showers, I made sure to keep my back turned toward Dawn the entire time.
I didn’t want to give her the wrong impression about my intentions.
The showers were just open stalls without any curtains or privacy. Since I kept facing away from her, I had no idea where she was looking, but the thought that she might be checking me out actually made me smile. I wouldn’t exactly mind if she was.
After getting dressed, we sat on our adjacent bunks just as the rest of the recruits started filtering back into the barracks.
We tried to keep our conversation going, but the noise level skyrocketed once everyone else arrived, making it nearly impossible to talk properly. Not that it mattered for long.
Captain Blackwood strode into the barracks with Corbin trailing behind him. We all immediately jumped to our feet at attention.
“We have a mission,” he announced, his eyes sweeping across each of us like he was handpicking soldiers for battle. “I need several of you to deploy to a wolf pack territory. It’s hours away by helicopter. Your objective is complete elimination. That means you put down every wolf you encounter.”
I glanced over at Nico and Koa. Both were standing perfectly rigid, following protocol.
“Corbin and I have discussed who’s best suited for this operation. When you hear your name, get suited up and meet Corbin at the helicopter pad in thirty minutes. Hudson, Zane, Briggs, Talia, Asher, and Dawn.”
I looked over at Dawn. Her eyes were practically glowing with excitement, but something about this whole thing felt off to me.

“Any questions?” Blackwood asked.
“Which pack are we targeting?” I needed to know.
“Wayfinders Pack pack,” Blackwood replied curtly.
I nodded, processing the information.
“Thirty minutes. Don’t be late,” Corbin said before heading out.
As everyone started getting ready, I positioned myself on the far side of my bunk, facing Koa.
“You know what needs to happen,” I whispered.
“Don’t worry. I’ve got everything under control,” he whispered back.
