Chapter 50

Dominic POV

She had… some nerve.

Honestly, who the hell even was that?

I stood there clenching my fists so hard my knuckles cracked, trying to breathe before I said something I couldn’t take back. My wolf paced in my chest, restless, pissed, and confused.

A week.

She’s been avoiding me for an entire damn week.

And it’s not like I didn’t try. I did. I actually lowered myself enough to attempt an apology-twice, even. And what did I get for it?

Ellie looking at me like I wasn’t worth the dirt under her shoe. Spitting venom every time I got within a ten-foot radius.

Fine. Whatever. I get it.

I was… in her room.

With her sister.

Not exactly my best moment.

But I’m innocent here.

I didn’t do anything. I didn’t plan anything. Vivian practically threw herself at me like she thought my mouth had a gravitational pull, and somehow I’m the villain in this story?

My lip nearly curled.

You know what’s funny though?

I could forgive it.

I could look away from her disrespect, her weird personality flip, even her moving schools.

Fine. Because that was between us. But these… were my parents.

If it was all revenge to piss me off, sure. But the Ellie I remembered would’ve cracked infront of them. Broke her stupid new act.

She would’ve tried so damn hard to impress my mother even when my mother treated her like she was invisible apologized for bumping into them even though she hadn’t done anything wrong. She would’ve looked at me for some kind of reassurance.

My Mother glanced me way with a click of her tongue. “Fated Mate, hm? And you were even considering someone like her?” She scoffed. “Truly you must wish us pain.”

I rubbed my chin. “Mother, the Moon Goddess picked our pairing, I have nothing-”

“But you don’t reject it?” My father’s hand hit my shoulder. “Why? She’s as valuable as a wolfless omega to us. Especially with that attitude. The Moon Goddess makes mistakes son. She did with you’re mother.”

That froze me. “Mom,” I said, “You weren’t Dad’s fated?”

+25 Bonus

My mother laughed behind her hand like I was just being silly. “This isn’t about us, it’s about you. And who you destined to be with. And it won’t be that… rebellious of a girl.”

I exhaled, rubbing the back of my neck.

Ellie’s rebellious, huh? Yeah, it’s some commitment to keep it up infront of them One I couldn’t cover for.

My head tilted.

…Or had something actually changed?

My father let out a low scoff. “True, we should probably look into your marriage soon, some other bloodlines. That girl is going to be trouble,” he muttered.

My mother tsked dramatically. “You know, I liked her before when she groveled a bit. But that. That was plain…” She paused, her eyes narrowing on where Ellie disappeared. “Moronic, What a foolish girl.”

I opened my mouth to correct them-defend her, say something-but nothing came out.

The truth was, it’s not like they were technically wrong. According to pack dynamics, hierarchy, whatever outdated rulebook my father practically sleeps with, she was being disrespectful.

“Mr. and Mrs. Hale!”

Vivian’s voice rang down the hall like an overeager bell. I winced before I even turned.

Had she followed me? Why?

I couldn’t think of worst timing.

She came hurrying down the corridor, beaming like she’d just won a pageant. Her hair perfectly curled, dress perfectly pink, smile perfectly rehearsed. And in her hands-

A cherry pie.

My eyes narrowed. Huh.

Vivian stopped in front of my parents, practically glowing. “Hello!” She bowed. “It’s so good to see you again! When I heard you were coming for a school visit, I made this for you! I know it’s your favorite, Mr. Hale.”

My father’s brows lifted, like he was pleasantly surprised. “Cherry pie. My favorite, indeed.”

My mother clasped her hands together. “Oh. How… thoughtful. Dominic always said you were such a sweet girl.”

I stiffened.

Had I said that?

No. And not in that tone. My mother wasn’t happy, even if she was smiling.

Vivian shot me a little smile that made my skin itch. Like she was silently saying, See? I fit here.

But she had no idea. No idea my mother was scheming, and my gaze was still locked on that cherry pie.
