Chapter 53

“Ugh!” She jabbed my chest again. “You don’t mean any of this! You don’t care! I know you don’t! I know it for a fact! So stop acting like you care what I think ad stop bothering me!”

“A fact?” My head snapped. “Ellie, what are you talking about? We’ve never even had a chance to—”

She shoved me hard, palms slamming against my shoulders. “I want nothing to do with you! I was just a stepping stool to you. I’m done. I don’t like you. I hate you. Clear enough?”

Her breath hitched between us, filling the silence.

“Right,” I said, though my voice betrayed me. “But we’re fated, Ellie. You like me. I’m just trying to make things

ri-”

“How could I ever like you?!” she exploded. “I saw Vivian kissing you. In my room!”

I froze.

My pride roared up so fast I spoke before thinking. “See? You’re jealous. Just admit it.”

Her eyes nearly burst into flames. “Jealous? I’m disgusted. You were in my room with my sister, you creep! Why were you even there? You could screw her anywhere-”

“I wasn’t going to screw her,” I snapped. “Or kiss her. Idiot. I was there because—”

I grimaced.

God. This was humiliating.

“You were what!?” She snarled.

I braced. This…sounded so lame no matter how I said it.

“I was hungry.” I said finally. “During the party. I know you keep a snack stash. I went to grab something.”

Her jaw dropped. “They had snacks downstairs-”

“It was for revenge!” I blurted. “You embarrassed me at the seminar. I was getting back at you, taking some food. And, I don’t know, mess with you somehow. But then Vivian walked in drunk and—yeah.”

Silence. Brutal silence.

She raised a brow. “That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

She paused in thought. I was hoping maybe she would hear me out, but all she said was.

“Yeah, you need therapy.”

That jabbed deeper than I wanted to admit. I told the truth didn’t I? I stepped closer. “Oh yeah? When you’re the one who’s been throwing a tantrum over it all week yet not ‘talking’ about it. Coward.”

“It. Didn’t. Bother. Me,” she shot back.

“Liar.”

Her nostrils flared. “You stormed out of the seminar like a toddler. Not me. I’m not the one with the issues.”

I swallowed. Then softly: “And? So, what if I was jealous? Would that matter? Change anything about this conversation?”

She froze. Completely.

“You felt it,” I said quietly, tilting my head her way. “Our bond burned both of us during that seminar. It hurt you to see me with someone else.”

Her walls cracked for a heartbeat. Her lips parted. Her breath hitched. And for a moment-just one-everything between us softened.

And then I spoke. When I shouldn’t have.

“I mean, I saw your room,” I said, letting a smirk slip. “Those posters. Come on-just admit you still-

Her face shut down, hard. Color flared across her cheeks, fury slamming back into place.

“Those were meant to come down a long time ago,” she hissed. “In a room you were never invited into. You disgust me.’

She shoved past me, storming for the door.

“Ellie-wait-”

But she was already gone. The door swung open. Slammed shut.

I stood there.

“Shit…” I muttered.

Then. my phone buzzed.

I looked down, still dazed.

Dad: Meet us in the office. We need to discuss the Alpha Ball.

…Perfect timing.

I took one long last breath of her scent before I stalked out.

When I got there, my parents were already talking to Marcus. My beta. They were spewing dates, expectations, reputation, alliances. The real reason they were here. My mother already fearing over my partner.

Marcus snorted. “Obviously Dom’s bringing Vivian. Duh.”

And I opened my mouth-

But the name that came out wasn’t hers.

“Do me a favor. Ask Ellie on my behalf.”

Marcus choked. “Bro-what?”

“She’s my fated mate,” I said coldly, like that explained everything. “Just go invite her.”

I ignored the stunned stares from my parents, and the twisting in my stomach.

I ignored the memory of Ellie’s voice saying you disgust me.

None of that mattered.

Because fate was fate.

Right?

Even if she hated me right now…

Ellie would come.
