Chapter 119
Apparently, my future had just been sealed. Again.
But I don’t want him. I’ve never wanted this.

But when Dominic opens his mouth, he faces his parents. “With respect, you’re wrong. Ellie wasn’t the prime choice of the night. And my opinion should carry some weight here too. I’m the one who has to live with this.”
My brow furrows his way.
I can’t tell if he’s saving or trying to make a fool out of me. Either way, it pisses me off. I open my mouth to snap back, say my own peace when his father calls him back stage and Sarah catches my arm near the edge of the crowd.
“Ellie,” she says quietly. “Hey. Are you okay? What was that?! I though they hated you?”
“I don’t knwo anymore but…I’m fine,” I lie, already moving.
She doesn’t buy it. “You don’t look fine. You look pissed. Wait!”
She pulls me to a stop. “Where are you going?”
“To talk to them? I get a say don’t I?”
I try to leave but she holds me back again. “Ellie, that’s the Alpha and Luna, you can publicly say no! If anything, privately tell
them.”
“I am,” I nod to the backstage. “I’ll just tell them back there.”
Sarah hesitates, clearly wanting to say more, but she lets me go with a nod.
I slip through the bodies, toward the back corridor, my heels clicking too loudly against the stone floor.
That’s when Vivian brushes past me. Hard.
Her shoulder slams into mine, sharp enough to knock the breath from my lungs.
She leans in as she passes, her voice low and sweet and poisonous. “Looks like you finally scared him off for good.”
I don’t stop, but this odd feeling follows me anyway.
The corridor behind the stage is dimmer, quieter, lined with heavy curtains and polished doors. I slow as voices drift toward me.
Dominic’s and his parents.
I should push through, announce myself. But my feet stop anyway, pausing and listening.
“She isn’t the one,” Dominic says flatly.
My heart stutters.
“What did you just say?” his father snaps.
“Anyone,” Dominic continues, the words coming faster now. “I don’t care who. Just not her.
I press myself closer to the wall.
“Enough,” his father says. “You’re asking us to ignore destiny. A perfect setup for the Alpha and Luna of our pack. Even the Moon Goddess blessed it.”
“I don’t want her, okay?” Dominic snaps. “I’m asking you to listen.”
I feel this rush through me. Sure, I knew he didn’t want me anymore, or I him. But then why…dance with me? Why do anything.

he did?
I feel this burning. I’m… furious.
Fine. So that’s it. That’s how he says it, and that’s how it is.
I turn and march straight up the stairs to the stage. Everyone whispering, slowly clueing in. The moment I reach the middle, my hands reach out and take the microphone, and the room goes dead silent.
Every face turns toward me.
I tap the mic twice, the bumps loud, echpong.
“Um, hi everyone. I’m Ellie, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m the girl the Alpha and Luna just announced to be there top pick for there son. But I wasn’t exactly clued into this decision, and wanted to make something very clear,” I say, my gaze sweeping the crowd.
Then I glance back through the curtain. My eyes meeting Dominic’s.
Jerk.
“I reject the bond.” I face the crowd again. “I always have.”
A ripple runs through the room.
“This,” I continue, lifting the microphone slightly, “doesn’t change anything. Not your choice, or annoucement without my consent. I don’t want Dominic. I never asked for him, and I don’t accept him now.”
Gasps. Whispers.
“So whatever future you all thought you were giving tonight, consider it declined.” I glanced back at Dominc’s parents through the curtain. “Appologies.”
The silence that follows is deafening.
I toss the mic over my shoulder as it thumps loud to the ground, and step off the stage, heart pounding, but better then I have
felt all night.
This….felt like a better way to end the night, it finally feeling like it was mine again.
