Chapter 320

“Better hurry, Alpha,” the eyepatch one called out. He was following the others toward the door, still grinning. “Wouldn’t want your precious sister-in-law to die from her injuries before you get her home.”

I wanted to say something so badly. My wolf was howling, struggling for control again. But what choice did I have? I picked Vivian up and turned away.

The last thing I saw before I left the building was Ellie’s face. She looked back at me once, just once, and the expression on her face was something I never wanted to see again.

Betrayal. Hatred. Heartbreak.

And then she was gone, disappearing into the darkness with the rogues.

Vivian clung to me as I ran through the forest. She was crying the entire time, her nails digging into my shoulders. I barely felt it. My mind was somewhere else, already working through the logistics of what came next.

I needed to get Vivian home. I needed to gather my warriors. And most of all, I needed to move fast, before the rogues had a chance to take Ellie too far or do something worse.

The house came into view after what felt like hours, but upon glancing at my watch, I realized it had only been ten minutes. I burst through the front door, still carrying Vivian, and nearly collided with my Beta.

“Alpha?” He stared at me, eyes going wide. “What the hell happened?”

“Get the healers,” I said. I set Vivian down on the couch in the sitting room, and she immediately curled into a ball, still sobbing. “Now.”

He didn’t ask questions. He just turned and ran.

I stood there for a moment, looking down at Vivian. She was a mess. Her dress was torn, her face was bruised, and there was blood on her wrists from where the ropes had cut into her skin. She looked like she’d been through hell.

But she was alive.

And Ellie wasn’t here.

My chest constricted painfully. I tried the mate bond again, pushing as hard as I could, but it was still closed. Still cold.

Goddess, I wished I could make her understand. I wished I could tell her I wasn’t abandoning her. But there was nothing I could do about that until she was in my arms again.

Then, I would tell her everything. I would tell her how much I loved her, how I would never let her go, and how sorry I was for ever making her feel like I would.

The healers arrived a few minutes later, rushing into the room with their bags and supplies. They immediately started working on Vivian, checking her injuries and asking her questions she was too hysterical to answer.

My Beta pulled me aside. “What happened?” he asked again.

“Rogues,” I said. My voice sounded hollow even to my own ears. “They took Ellie. They had both of them, and they made me choose.”

His eyes widened. “They made you choose?”

“I chose Vivian because it was the only way to save them both,” I said. “If I’d chosen Ellie, they would have killed Vivian immediately. But if I chose Vivian, I could buy time. Ellie’s still alive. They need her for something. I don’t know what, but they’re not going to kill her. Not yet.”

He nodded slowly. “So what’s the plan?”

“We’re going to get her back,” I said. “Tonight.”

“Tonight?”

“I need you to gather our best warriors,” I said. “The ones who can move fast and fight hard. We don’t have time to waste. Every

second we wait is another second she’s with those bastards.”

“How many?”

“As many as you can muster,” I said. “We’re leaving in fifteen minutes.” Even that felt too long, but I knew it was the best we

could do.

My Beta nodded and rushed out of the house.
