Chapter 322

While the others made camp, Eyepatch crouched down in front of me with that same rotten grin on his face. He studied me for a moment, tilting his head to one side, then the other.

“I have to say,” he murmured, reaching up as if to touch my face, “that was hard to watch. Even for me.”

I ground my teeth together and yanked my head away.

His hand hovered by my head, then lowered. “You’ll get over him eventually,” he said. His eyes flicked down to my dress, torn and ruined now, but my nipples were still on full display. I saw his gaze go hungry, but he seemed to be controlling himself.” Man like that doesn’t deserve a woman like you.”

“Go to hell,” I muttered.

“Been there already,” he said with a chuckle. “Didn’t care for it much.”

I stared at the floor, ignoring him entirely. The other rogues were settling in around the cave, pulling out food and water from packs I hadn’t noticed before. Someone tossed a skin of water my way, and I flinched.

“Don’t worry,” Eyepatch said, picking up the skin, uncapping it, and holding it out to me. “No harm will come to you now. We need you alive for our plans to work.”

I hesitated, looking warily at the skin. I wanted to refuse anything these assholes tried to give me, but I also knew I needed to keep my wits about me, and dehydrating myself wouldn’t make things any easier.

Finally, with a huff, I snatched the skin and chugged the water. Eyepatch watched me the entire time. After, I threw the skin on the floor and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.

“What plans?” I asked.

He stood. “You’ll find out once we reach our home base. It’s a few days’ journey from here, out in the wilderness. You’ll love it. Very rustic.”

“I’m sure,” I said flatly.

He chuckled and turned back to the fire.

I sat there for a moment, staring at the flames. My mind was numb. I couldn’t process any of this. Couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that I was here, tied up in a cave with a pack of rogues, while Dominic was back home with Vivian.

My throat felt tight again. I blinked hard, refusing to cry. I wasn’t going to give them the satisfaction, even if they weren’t here to see it.

After a while, I laid down on the bedroll and turned onto my side, facing the wall. My shoulder screamed in protest, but I ignored it. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep, although I knew I wouldn’t be able to.

I tuned out the sounds of the rogues’ voices and focused on my breathing. In and out. Slow and steady.

I wasn’t going to stay here. That much was certain. I didn’t know what these rogues wanted with me, and I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to sit around and wait to find out.

I needed to escape.

But how?

I was injured. My wolf would be weakened until I got proper nourishment in me to heal that wound in my shoulder. I didn’t have weapons, didn’t have supplies. I didn’t even have shoes.

But I had my brain. And I’d spent months studying healing at the academy, poring over texts about plants and herbs and their medicinal properties. I’d read about rare species that only grew in certain regions, about flowers that could cure poison and

roots that could dull pain.

I’d also read about the Lycans. About their connection to extremely rare and extraordinary plants. Plants that could enhance strength, speed, and healing. Plants that could give someone an edge in a fight.

Plants that could heal a broken leg in a matter of moments.

If I could find one of those plants, then maybe I could use it. Maybe I could give myself a fighting chance.

Then, I would escape and start a new life. Somewhere far away from Dominic, from Vivian, from all of it.
