Leo’d been having trouble sleeping for a while now, and with all this going on, rest was out of the question.
He kept a close watch on every new development.
When Kevin called to tell him that Nicolas was now infertile, his first thought was, ‘Trouble is coming, Nicole’s father couldn’t help but worry.
Not long after, the major shareholder who’s always butting heads with him suddenly sent him a message.
He saw it was another trending topic and clicked on the video.
His chest heaved with anger, and his face was as dark as a thundercloud.
On one hand, he was furious at the mess his second wife and her daughter had caused. They got beaten up in public, wailing and pleading for mercy, and someone filmed the whole thing and posted it online, making it go viral. It was utterly humiliating.
On the other hand, he was pissed at Nicolas’s mother for totally disrespecting the Hammond family. ‘Couldn’t she just talk things out like a normal person? Did she really have to go over there and throw punches?’ he fumed.
He couldn’t hold back and called Kevin to chew him out, then told him to go check on Mavis at the hotel.
Kevin felt totally wronged and couldn’t help but talk back, “Dad, this whole mess was caused by Mavis and her daughter. Why are you taking it out on me?
“You’re being totally unreasonable right now.
“Nicolas is infertile because of Nicole. Can’t Mrs. Moore at least vent her anger a little?
“I’m just the junior here. It’s not my place to get involved in my stepmom’s mess.
“Suit yourself, I’m not going.”
Then he hung up, not giving a damn.
That just showed how pissed off he was.
This whole mess was already dragging the Hammond family down, and he hadn’t even gotten around to blaming Nicole and her mom yet.

And now his dad actually wanted him to go look after his stepmom? What a joke.
After the call, Austin asked, “Dad wants you to go look after Mavis?”
Kevin replied, “Not just me-he wants all three of us to go.
“I said no.”
Austin and Caleb both looked pretty grim.
Diana was still raging. If they went over there now, they might end up getting smacked too.
‘Seriously, Dad actually has the nerve to ask us to do that?’ they thought.
Austin said, “Good call. Dad’s really lost it.”
There was no way he was going to that hotel.
Alicia, who hadn’t left yet, chimed in, “You know what they say where there’s a stepmom, there’s a stepdad. That’s just how it’s always been.
“Looks like you guys are step-sons now too.”
‘Let Dad keep covering for Mavis and her daughter. The sooner the family falls apart, the better,’ Alicia thought to herself.
The three brothers shot Alicia a look, not missing the gloating smirk in her eyes.
All three of them sighed in frustration. “You really do have it all figured out,” Kevin said.
Alicia snorted. “Took you guys long enough to catch on.”
Seeing that Nicolas was about to wake up, Alicia didn’t want to talk to him.
She put away the vial of Nicolas’s blood she’d just collected.
She turned to Nicolas’s father and said, “Mr. Moore, Nicolas is out of danger now, so I don’t need to stay any longer.”
Nicolas’s father said, “Thank you so much for coming all this way. We won’t forget this favor.”
Alicia nodded. “Then we’ll be going.”
She skipped the pleasantries-she and Nicolas had nothing to do with each other anymore. She’d come all this way to help him, so it was only right that the Moore family owed her one.
Plus, she’d come here for a reason, and now she’d gotten the confirmation she wanted.
Once she got back and ran some tests on Nicolas’s blood, maybe she’d discover something

Nicolas’s father exchanged a few more pleasantries, then had his assistant walk Alicia and Jason out.
The Hammond brothers wanted to catch up with Alicia for a quick chat, but Nicolas’s father called them back.
Nicolas’s father asked with a stern face, “How is the Hammond family going to take responsibility for this?”
Kevin felt helpless. He knew the Moore family wouldn’t just let it slide.
He thought for a moment and replied, “We’ll help find whoever cooked up that drug and do whatever we can to help Nicolas get better.”
‘What else can we do?’ Kevin thought to himself.
Nicolas’s father had already prepared for the worst-case scenario. “What if you guys can’t track down the culprit, or if Nicolas stays like this?”
Kevin said, “Something this big is way out of my league. You’ll have to talk to my dad about
it.”
With the Moore family being so aggressive, the best they could hope for was the Hammond family having to make some concessions and pay up.
Worst case? The two families would fall out completely, and the Moores would come after the Hammonds with everything they had.
But it all came down to one thing-would the Hammonds cover for Nicole or not?
Either way, whether it was coughing up compensation or protecting Nicole, none of that was
his call to make.
Nicolas’s father knew Kevin wasn’t really in a position to take responsibility-he just wanted to make sure the Hammonds understood the Moores weren’t backing down.
“Tell your dad this: unless the Hammond family gives us a real answer, any cooperation between our families is off the table,” he said coldly.
