286 Chapter 286
286.Chapter 286
“So what do you think we should do? Should we just go in and rescue Dad ourselves?” Kevin asked.
Alicia replied, “Call the cops, duh. Why would we risk it ourselves?
“If Mavis and Nicole really have him locked up, that’s a crime.”
Kevin hesitated. “If we call the cops, it’ll turn into a huge scandal.
“That would be a major humiliation for the Hammond family-and for Dad.”
His dad cared a lot about his reputation. If everyone found out he’d been held captive, he’d totally lose it.
Alicia rolled her eyes. “Hasn’t the Hammond family embarrassed themselves enough lately?
“Is your dad trying to save face, or save his life?
“If you go barging in there yourself and something goes wrong, and if anything happens to him, Mavis and Nicole will just blame you for it.
“But if you call the cops, whatever happens is on them.”
‘Seriously, worrying about your dad’s reputation right now is a waste of time.
‘Getting Mavis and Nicole locked up is what really matters,’ she thought.
Kevin nodded, seeing her logic. “Okay, I’ll call the police.”
As soon as he hung up with Alicia, he dialed the police.
What Kevin didn’t notice was that Felix had been quietly eavesdropping from the shadows, catching every word of his call. Once Kevin headed out to meet the cops, Felix slipped into the storage room, retrieved a burner phone from a hidden nook, and quickly dialed a number.
Julian hadn’t expected Leo to have a backup plan.
He’d already told Mavis to search Leo from head to toe and even made him change into a hospital gown.
‘Where did he manage to hide that tracker?’ he thought, mind racing.
While he was busy getting Leo moved, he scrubbed through the security footage, checking every angle.
In one shot, he spotted Leo still wearing his watch.
He guessed that when Leo was faking sleep with his hands under the blanket, he must’ve used the watch to trigger the
tracker alert.
He got up and headed over to Nicole and Mavis’s room.
The two of them have been staying at this private hospital these days-they haven’t stepped outside once.
When Julian walked in looking grim, Mavis asked cautiously, “What’s wrong?”
Julian shot her a cold look. “Your secret about keeping Leo locked up is out.”
Mavis’s eyes went wide. “How did we get exposed?”
Julian snorted. “Why don’t you ask yourself?
“Didn’t I tell you to take everything off him? How come he’s still got his watch?”
Leo had kept his watch tucked under his sleeve, and Julian hadn’t even noticed.
Mavis never imagined Leo would use his watch to pull a fast one.
She muttered, looking sheepish, “It was a birthday present from me, so I just let him keep it without a second thought.”
Julian just couldn’t believe it. ‘This woman is more trouble than she’s worth-always screwing things up and never getting anything right. What an idiot.
‘Even now, she’s still got her head stuck in romance? Unbelievable.’
“Kevin’s already called the police. I’ll have someone get you and Nicole out of here, fast,” Julian said, his voice icy.
“Once Leo’s been moved to a new location, then you can see him,” he added.
Because Mavis screwed up, now the cops wou Successfully unlocked! ivis and Nicole could escape the spotlight
now.
A cold fury twisted in Julian’s gut. ‘That Alicia, always messing up my plans…’ he thought, eyes narrowing.

286 Chapter 280
If she hadn’t pushed Kevin to call the cops, this would’ve been a simple job instead of a total headache
Once he had a moment to spare, he’d make sure to teach that damn girl a lesson she wouldn’t forget.
When Kevin showed up at the private hospital with the cops, Leo was nowhere to be found.
The app showed his location was right here, but not only was Leo gone-even the tracker itself had vanished
After a while, the signal just disappeared into thin air.
The cops kept combing through the hospital, but Leo was nowhere to be found.
Kevin’s skin crawled. ‘No doubt about it-they must’ve caught on to us before we even made a move.
‘Could Julian have planted someone right under my nose?’
But he’d already replaced his secretary and assistant, and hadn’t breathed a word of this plan to anyone else.
The only person he’d told was Alicia.
Still, he never suspected Alicia of being the one to screw things up.
Even if Alicia had cut ties with their dad, there was no way she’d ever rat them out to the other side or stab them in the back.
Besides, she was the one who suggested calling the cops in the first place.
No matter how many times he went over it in his head, he just couldn’t figure out what slipped or where the leak was.
Before he knew it, he was dialing Alicia again.
