Chapter 258
Evelyn’s POV
The car pulled up to my mother’s estate within two hours. As soon as we pulled through those familiar iron gates, I felt my stomach drop with burning anticipation.
Part of me wished that I had agreed for Kane to come with me; however, I didn’t want it to appear that I
was hiding behind my husband’s status.
This was my obstacle.
I already had a grizzly feeling that my oh-so-loving step-siblings were going to do everything in their power to make me feel less than I was. It was in their nature to make others feel small and insignificant.
Well, not anymore. Once they realized the reality of their situation, things were going to change.
I wasn’t even fully out of the car when I saw the front doors of the house bust open. Out came Katya and Flynn, followed closely by their mother.
I took a deep breath. “Well, here goes nothing.”
“Oh, boy. Look who’s come crawling back with her tail between her legs,” Katya snickered.
“I’m honestly surprised that it took so long,” Flynn added.
My stepmother pushed herself past her own daughter and son to stand before me.
“We’ve been keeping tabs on all the latest news involving your husband’s pack,” she hummed with a smirk. “It would appear that Alpha Kane’s ex-fiancé has made a sudden return. And since you’re here, I’m assuming that it’s because he’s chosen to go back to her rather than stay with you.”
Both Katya and Flynn laughed at their mother’s cutting remark at my expense. Shockingly, her words held zero effect and rolled right off.
“Well, you’re certainly half right,” I told her. “It’s true that Kane’s ex is back in the picture; however, you may be disappointed to discover that our relationship is nowhere near over.”
Katya scoffed. “Yeah, right.”
“If that’s true, then why are you here?” Flynn questioned haughtily.
“Evelyn!” a deep voice called from the house. My father came steaming through the doors, his face red with anger. “What the hell are you doing here?! Don’t tell me that Kane finally realized that it wasn’t worth keeping you around any longer!”
Good Gods… How the hell had I managed to survive a household filled with this many horrible people?
This time I rolled my eyes and stood my ground. “Once again, no. I am here for personal reasons.”
“Personal reasons,” he said mockingly with a cold sneer. “There is nothing for you here.”

“He’s right,” my stepmother affirmed. “I don’t know why you’ve gone through all the trouble of traveling back here, but it was clearly a waste of time. This is no longer your home, and I can’t imagine that we’ve suddenly decided to start taking in strays off the street.”
Again, Flynn and Katya cackled at her words. I, on the other hand, was unfazed.
“Funny, I believe that I feel the same way,” I said darkly. “As it turns out, my father was right. My mother had left a hidden will. And guess who found it.”
All the blood drained from my father’s face as my stepmother continued to laugh.
“Impossible,” he hissed. “You’re lying.”
“On the contrary…” A booming voice rang out.
We all turned our heads to find the Alpha King standing amongst a group of his guards.
“Not only is your daughter telling you the truth, but you and your other family are about to get the shock of your lives,” the king announced.
The group next to me hesitated to properly bow at the sight of the king, who barely paid them any mind.
“Sorry for my lateness,” he said to me. “I’ve had nothing but back-to-back meetings all morning.”
“It’s alright,” I said. “Surprisingly enough, I found it really hard to leave this morning, myself. Kane and I had a much-needed talk last night, which ended up clearing a lot of those issues I mentioned before.”
