Chapter 259
The king nodded with sympathy. “I had a feeling that things were going to work out between the two of you.”
My father non-committedly cleared his throat. The king shot him an unenthused glare. My father tried to make light of the situation by offering a less scornful look.
“Your Majesty, to what do we owe the honor of your presence?”
The king raised a brow. “I’m here to formally proclaim that Evelyn is the rightful owner and successor to not only the land but everything that sits on it as well.”
Every single one of their faces grew noticeably pale while their mouths parted in sheer disbelief.
“I don’t believe it,” my stepmother gasped. “No. This has to be some trick! I refuse to believe that Evelyn, of all people, would turn out to be the rightful inheritor to anything!”
“She probably forged those documents to better her own situation just to spite us,” Katya added.
“Oh, they’re quite real,” the king assured. “And if I were you, I would start being very considerate of what you say to Evelyn going forward. Because as of right now, she is the true owner of this house and what she says will be adhered to.”
Once more, everyone fell silent. My stepmother was fuming. She turned on her heels and headed back into the house. My father, however, was determined to turn this situation back into his own favor.
“Your Majesty, surely we can discuss this situation in further detail,” my father prompted. “I’ve always known you to be a considerate and logical man-”
“The only person whose ass you should be kissing right now should be hers,” the king said, gesturing to
“She knows nothing about how to run a pack,” my father argued.
“By the looks of it, neither do you,” he stated. “Unlike the rest of you, I actually know what she’s capable of.”
The king turned to me. “My guards have been ordered to stay here until everyone has been moved off the premises,” he said.
I nodded. “I appreciate that.”
Over the next few days, the tension in the air had been almost unbreathable. I did my best to examine each part of the house to see what needed to be replaced or upgraded. All the while I felt the glares and heard the remarks under people’s breath.
I’d made the grand announcement to my stepmother and step-siblings that they were to pack up their belongings. I wanted them gone that following morning.

As I was walking down one of the main hallways on the second floor, I ended up overhearing a conversation between my stepmother and Katya.
Katya was whining as usual. “I can’t believe that Evelyn is demanding that we leave behind all of the clothes that we bought over the years,” she complained.
I stood in the doorway and glared at her. “It’s because you bought them with my mother’s money, practically draining her accounts on frivolous things and neglecting the pack of what they truly needed.”
Katya tossed whatever dresses were in her hands onto the floor. Her features twisted into an ugly sneer.
“The only reason you’re even able to do any of this is because of your crooked, heartless mother!” she
spat out.
Something snapped within me. One moment I was standing in the doorway, and the next I had Katya pinned against the wall by her neck. I saw red.
I let out the most horrific, animalistic sound I ever had. My Alpha rippled on the surface, and Katya cried
out in fear.
“Let me make something abundantly clear to you,” I snarled. “I am not the same defenseless girl that you all used to order around anymore. She’s gone.”
