Chapter 267
Evelyn’s POV
My heart dropped into my stomach. But now wasn’t the time for me to be losing my nerve. I made a promise that I would keep tabs on Michael and ensure his safety while I was away.
“I’m coming back to the estate. Tell the guards to keep their positions until I get there,” I told Diana.
I ended the call and rushed back to my room to get changed. Just as I came out of the bathroom, I found Cheryl standing in the doorway.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
“I have to go back to Kane’s,” I said. “Someone tried to break into the restricted section in the medical
ward.”
Cheryl’s eyes widened. “Do you know how long you’ll be gone?” I gently shook my head, feeling a cold wave of uncertainty break over me. “Well, don’t worry. We will cover things here while you’re gone.”
For the first time in the last half hour, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”
I quickly grabbed my bag and headed out to the car. I managed to make it through the gates of Kane’s vast estate in record time. The second the car was parked, I rushed out and headed through the main
doors.
The guards that were standing on duty saw me coming and gave me shared looks of concern.
“Luna?”
“What are you doing here so late?”
I struggled to catch my breath. “Diana called me; someone’s tried to break into one of the rogues’ rooms in the medical ward.”
I raced through the house amidst the guards calling after me. The house was enveloped in darkness, but
I knew exactly which hallways to take. I spotted Diana as soon as I reached the medical ward.
“You made it!” she exclaimed. Her expression was a mixture of pure relief and shaken nerves. “I don’t know how this happened.”
“It’s okay, I’m still glad you called me,” I said.
When Diana and I headed into the ward, we came upon Michael’s room. My stomach churned in knots as
I stared at the mangled lock and near-broken doorhinges.
“Oh my Gods,” I hissed under my breath.
I immediately turned my head to glare at the guard that was standing nearby.
“Did you happen to see anything that would cause this amount of destruction?” I asked him.

The guard lowered his head. “No, Luna. The group of us were called to a meeting before, and when we came back, we noticed the door had been tampered with,” he explained.
“What about the other rogues?” I asked. From what I could see, none of the other doors had been tampered with.
Diana shook her head. “No. I think the reason for that is because they’re not fully coherent, whereas Michael is.”
I nodded my head and unlocked the door to his room. I stepped inside and turned to glance at the bed, expecting to find Michael there. But the bed was empty.
My heart lunged into my throat. Where the hell was he? Has whoever damaged the door actually managed to get to Michael?
I stepped further into the room and tried to glance around. Right as I turned my head to the left, a large figure loomed over me. Before I could say another word, I found myself shoved hard against the wall.
A large hand was pressed against my throat, cutting off my air. My eyes grew wide in shock as Michael glared back at me in animalistic rage.
“M-Michael,” I gasped. “It’s m-me…It’s Ev-Evelyn.”
Michae’s eyes grew wide in realization. “Evelyn?” He quickly stepped several feet back. “I’m so sorry.”
I shook my head. “It’s okay,” I said weakly.
“No, it’s not. I almost strangled you!”
“You were trying to defend yourself,” I justified for him.
Poor Michael looked truly shaken. I knew that he hadn’t meant to hurt me. He was likely just trying to protect himself against whoever had tried to get in here before.
