Chapter 8
“That’s impossible! It can’t be true!”
Stella shook her head frantically as Adrian stared at her in disbelief.
Despite her innocent face, he couldn’t believe she would harm him so severely.
The witch was dragged forward for questioning.
Feeling the Alpha King’s overwhelming intimidating presence, he trembled like a leaf.
“Your Majesty, spare me! Everything was this woman’s idea. I clearly explained the medicine’s terrible effects and advised against it…”
“But she insisted, saying as long as the future Alpha King could survive the ceremony, she didn’t care what happened to him afterward…”
“Perhaps it’s divine justice that the poison took effect early!”
The witch’s words shattered Adrian’s last bit of trust and pity for Stella!
“Poison woman! Why did you harm me!”
D
“I risked injury protecting you during that hunt, and even sacrificed a leg for your sake. Now you’ve destroyed everything I have left!”
“If only I had… if only I had…”
Adrian’s eyes filled with indescribable pain and regret as he searched desperately for my face in the crowd.
Only now did he realize his terrible mistake.
Adrian collapsed weakly, listening to the pack healer’s sighs and pronouncements of his incurable condition, closing his eyes in agony.
The Alpha King immediately ordered Stella’s arrest and imprisonment.
This wedding farce finally ended amid everyone’s shock and dismay.
I was about to leave with Kai when Adrian’s hoarse, weak voice called out: “Lyra… Lyra… don’t go!”
His eyes were red with tears and filled with regret. “I was blind and foolish, failing to see Stella’s true nature…”
“I was deceived by her all along, thinking she truly loved me deeply, never imagining she only coveted the Luna position.”
“Looking back, only you genuinely tried to save me, and your pack has always been loyal supporters. Only with your help could I have secured my
throne.”
–
“I know I was wrong. Can you give me another chance? Forgive me the Luna position is still waiting for you!”
Watching his current pitiful, begging state, I felt only irony.
A few light words of apology, and he thought he could erase everything I’d endured?
He was dreaming!
I coldly pushed away his hand clutching at my dress.
“Your Highness, some things can’t be undone. There’s no medicine for regret in this world.”
My mating ceremony with Kai was a grand celebration with guests filling the entire pack.
Kai personally helped me into the ceremonial carriage, his eyes full of love and devotion.
The wedding procession set off with drums and music, a joyous and lively atmosphere.
Suddenly, our path was blocked.
“Lyra! You cannot mate with another without my permission!”
Adrian appeared haggard and gaunt, slumped weakly in a sedan chair.
The onlookers whispered among themselves:
“What happened to the future Alpha King? Wasn’t he just parading around with his Luna-to-be recently?”
–
“Today Miss Grey is mating with someone else what’s he doing here?”
“I heard the future Alpha King originally wanted to force Miss Grey into being his mistress, but now Miss Grey has found true love, and he’s here making a scene?”
“You don’t know? The future Alpha King’s current wretched state is all thanks to his precious Luna-to-be! She poisoned him!”
Adrian heard the surrounding gossip, his expression growing increasingly dark.
He’d never believed he could lose me to another man.
“Lyra, you once promised
“It was my fault before
to be my mate for life…”
–
let me
make it up to you, alright?”
“Thanks to the medicine you sent, the pack healer says I’m no longer in mortal danger. With proper care, I’ll be as good as new…”
I looked at him coldly. “Future Alpha King, I’ve told you repeatedly – there’s no possibility between us!”
“No! You clearly still love me, or why would you have personally chosen that belt for me?”
