Chapter 47
Matilda’s good impression of the old man faded fast.

She said bluntly, “If you want to film, put the camera out in the open. The X2+ chip was developed for use in court as hard evidence. If it’s used for shady secret filming, it would break the developer’s heart.”
Neil came over, trying to find proof that the old man was recording, but he couldn’t see anything.
The old man suddenly laughed, pulled the pen from his pocket, and handed it to Matilda. “It’s not even on.”
She checked it and saw he was telling the truth. She handed it back but didn’t drop her guard.
The old man said, “Walking this whole place is tiring. Mind if I sit inside?”
Before Matilda could answer, Neil stepped aside and let him through.
After the old man sat, Neil poured him a glass of water, set it down without a word, and walked away again.
Matilda checked the temperature of the water and only put the glass in front of the old man once she was sure it wasn’t too
hot.
“What? You’re the president of Chip Alliance-Mr. Michael Norton?” Matilda’s face went pale.
His influence in the chip industry was unmatched. He oversaw the semiconductor field and set development strategies—he was at the very top.
Matilda never imagined she’d run into Michael here, and worse, she had spoken to him so sharply. “I didn’t recognize you. Please forgive me.”
Michael smiled. “Don’t mention that. You saw what others didn’t. Of all the people at this expo, you’re the only one who noticed this pen has a hidden camera. Of course, part of that’s because you developed it.”
Matilda felt flattered. “You know me?” It was lunchtime, and she wasn’t even wearing her name tag.
“I keep track of some of the talent shifts in this industry. Ms. Warren, you played a huge part in Crossen Technology’s success.” Michael stood up and walked over to the booth. “You haven’t been at Lurith Tech long, have you? Got any new ideas?”
Matilda followed. “It hasn’t been long, so my team and I could only make small upgrades to existing designs. In about a month, we should have the final version ready.
“These rings can all use AI unlocking, and users can make and receive calls at any time without a SIM card. Different users need different settings.”
In the lounge, Brandon had taken off his suit jacket. He asked his bodyguard, “Have the people cleared out yet?”
“Not yet,” the bodyguard answered.
They were more patient than he expected. He’d already had Greg drop hints to several companies-if they showed friendliness to Matilda, Crossen Technology would cut them off.
Crossen Technology had hundreds of partner companies. Even if these companies weren’t working with them now, there was a high chance they would need to in the future. Nobody was dumb enough to throw away their future for Matilda.

Brandon figured she must be heartbroken right now. If he showed up, it would be the perfect moment to stir up her old feelings,
She would grab his finger like before, beg him not to be mad, and say they could go back to how they were.
Just then, the room door opened. Shelby walked in with Brandon’s favorite dishes. She picked up a piece of steak and held it to his lips.
Brandon hesitated, then opened his mouth.
A few days ago, they had almost crossed the line, but he’d pulled back at the last moment. As long as he held that last line, he didn’t count it as cheating.
He’d already given Rose Villa to Shelby. If Matilda didn’t want to live there, he could just build her another one.
After a few bites, Brandon lost interest. He put down his fork, stood, and headed for the door.
Shelby suddenly spilled her soup, then leaned against the sofa, looking pale. “Brandon, my stomach really hurts-”
He turned back and saw her face drained of color.
He froze in place. But thinking of Matilda, he felt it would be a waste to miss this chance.
“Brandon?” Shelby’s voice sounded pitiful.
After a pause, he bent down, picked her up, and hurried out.
Lying in his arms, Shelby sneered, and her eyes gleamed with triumph.
‘Matilda, do you remember Mrs. Stuart, the one you offended at Everbright Mall? Once Brandon’s gone, she’ll come for you,’ she thought.
“Ms. Warren, you didn’t disappoint me. In such a short time, you’ve already found your own direction and brought innovation. I believe the market will open quickly.” Michael looked at Matilda with real admiration.
He wasn’t the type to lend a hand to someone struggling. Without help, one could only rise on one’s own. Matilda had already reached that height alone.
The products at Coreline Eternity-and that cold, tall young man-both showed sincerity. At the right time, Michael could give them a push.
“This afternoon, I’ll have my secretary arrange media to record a special feature on Coreline Eternity. Ms. Warren, you and that young man should be ready,” Michael said.
Matilda and Neil felt like fortune had finally turned their way. But neither was the type to show much emotion. They just exchanged a disbelieving look, then went back to work as if nothing had happened.
Rufus had work meals delivered for them-four dishes and a soup.
They had only eaten a few bites when two men came in. Judging by their gear, they looked like reporters.
Matilda frowned. Michael had said the afternoon, but it wasn’t even one o’clock yet. And the reporters were already here.
The clean-cut male reporter said, “Ms. Warren, I’ve been assigned to do an exclusive interview with you. Please come with

me to the interview room.”

There were meeting rooms and rest areas on the second floor. Since it was lunch break, most of them were occupied.
Matilda entered one room while the reporter and photographer whispered at the door.
“Shawn, this woman is tougher than the others. I’d think twice before trying anything,” the photographer said.
“What’s there to be afraid of? That stuff will keep her quiet,” Shawn sneered.
“I’m not sticking my neck out. I don’t have an aunt to cover for me like you do.” The photographer waved him off and walked
away.
Shawn returned to the room alone, holding two unopened bottles of water.
Matilda accepted one, said thanks, and asked, “Can I see your ID badge?”
Shawn twisted open his own bottle and smiled. “I forgot it in the car when I grabbed lunch earlier. My friend went to get it. We’ll start once he’s back. In the meantime, have some water to calm your nerves.”
He drank a few sips, stealing glances at her. He saw her hand twist open the cap and take slow, measured sips.
