Chapter 77
Allen thought there was danger.
His other hand immediately protected Matilda, his vigilant eyes carefully searching for any abnormalities in the surroundings.
The elevator operator was startled by Matilda’s scream.
He thought someone behind him was holding a gun. What could scare a woman like that?
Allen scanned back and forth several times, but found nothing unusual.
The only anomaly was Matilda, who was like a frightened bird.
He turned his head and said softly to Matilda behind him, “Don’t be afraid. Did you see something wrong?”
Matilda’s face was pale. She didn’t dare to look up, and there was still obvious panic in her eyes.
She swallowed and said in a trembling voice, “I think I must have seen it wrong.
“Well, I’ll go back first.”
Matilda dared not take the elevator again and hurried home up the stairs.
She called Tessa and first asked if Zack was home.
After Tessa said he wasn’t, Matilda asked Tessa if she could come and keep her company.
Tessa arrived in just twenty minutes, and Matilda finally relaxed.
Allen saw the fear in Matilda’s eyes, but didn’t know why she was afraid.
He paced back and forth in front of Matilda’s door.
He heard another woman’s voice in the house besides Matilda.
He didn’t hear what they were talking about, but the atmosphere was relaxed, and there was occasional laughter.
Allen felt a little relieved.
But what exactly could cause Matilda, who wasn’t afraid of fighting assassins empty-handed, to develop a fear?
Allen couldn’t sleep until he figured it out.
He valued Matilda very much.
If there had to be a reference, it would be more important than himself!
At eleven o’clock, there was a noise at Matilda’s door.
Allen walked a little further away.
He saw that it was Matilda’s friend who tiptoed out of the room.

Tessa looked at both sides of the corridor, went back inside, and took out a box.
She plucked out the roses that had just been carefully arranged, one by one, and put them in the box.

Then, she pulled the box to the elevator bay and began plucking the roses in the elevator bay and in the elevator.
Allen’s tightly furrowed brow was suddenly relaxed.
When he walked Matilda downstairs, the elevator door opened, and a cart of red roses suddenly appeared in front of her, and Matilda was overly frightened.
It was roses!
Allen thought, ‘What frightened Matilda was actually roses?
‘Wasn’t the house she used to live in called Rose Villa?
‘He thought she liked roses.’
Allen withdrew his gaze from Tessa and took the stairs back to the top floor.
As Tessa plucked the roses in the elevator, footsteps echoed in the corridor, and someone was issuing orders.
“Get more people over here. No roses are allowed in this residential area, not even a petal. Start with the 4th floor of Building 3.”
The property manager walked into the elevator.
He caught Tessa, who was in the act of plucking roses, red-handed.
Tessa rarely did anything to prick her conscience, resulting in an overly weak psychological quality.
After a brief eye contact, she couldn’t help but succumb to the torment within and confessed,
“I’m not stealing the roses.
“I was planning to take the roses down, put them in boxes, and return them to you.”
The property manager was stunned for a moment, then immediately smiled obsequiously.
“You did a great job. The roses were found to have pesticides, so they must all be returned. You are so kind to come out and help us in the middle of the night. You can come and go from Maple Heights as you please…”
Tessa didn’t quite know how to respond.
She was doing something bad, but suddenly it turned into a good deed.
Tessa returned to Matilda’s home and found Matilda sleeping restlessly. She lay down and hugged Matilda from behind.
Matilda turned over and hugged Tessa in return.
The two of them drew warmth from each other as they fell asleep.
Early in the morning, Matilda took out her suitcase.
She was preparing to stay at the office for another period of time.

Tessa exclaimed in surprise at the window, “Matilda, come and see. There are so many more tulips downstairs.”
Matilda walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
Looking out, she saw an array of tulips arranged in a crisscross pattern.
The flower stems point straight up, displaying indomitable vitality.
She felt noticeably relieved and strange.
She asked, “Why would they have gone through so much trouble replacing roses with tulips?”
Tessa fabricated a one-third true lie.
“Last night, after you fell asleep, I heard some movement outside. I went out to take a look and ran into the property manager there. He said this batch of roses had pesticides and had to be returned.”
The reason made sense.
There were many children in the community.
If someone were curious and put a piece of rose in their mouth, the consequences would be severe.
Matilda opened the window and took a deep breath of the fragrant tulips.
Today was her day off. She was going with Tessa to Everbright Mall for ice cream on the first floor and then going shopping.
Of course, she would wear the vintage dress Tessa made especially for her.
Saturday, Jolene didn’t need to go to school.
Allen was going to take Jolene to the farm and was waiting for Matilda and her friend downstairs in the apartment building.
He wanted to ask them if they wanted to go together.
The sound of crisp, rhythmic high heels came from the elevator lobby, not too fast, not too slow.
Allen knew it was Matilda and looked up subconsciously.
At that sight, his heart skipped a beat.
Then, his heartbeat never returned to its original rhythm..
Matilda wore a vintage dress.
It wasn’t the gentle and quiet type, but a tight-fitting design that tested the figure.
There was only enough give between the dress and her body to pull two fingers through.
It perfectly outlined the curves of her figure.
Her spine was rarely bent.
Her swan-like neck was as smooth as a stream, forming a perfect shape from her shoulder blades to her waist dimples.

She was like the fiery red rose from the night before, with an ultimate, soul-stirring charm.
Allen couldn’t help but think of a cold shower and the “fairy in a painting” on the glass door.
His Adam’s apple bobbed, despite his efforts to suppress it.

Beneath his glasses, his usually calm eyes surged with an intense passion in broad daylight and before a crowd.
Allen, always self-restrained and proper, forgot to say hi.
He thought to himself, ‘If fortunate enough, I would open a vintage dress studio for Matilda so she can wear them as much
as she likes.’
He also wondered, ‘Can I skip the hospital today? What excuse can I use to follow her for the whole day?’
