Winning the Heir Who Bullied Me
Chapter 105
June’s voice is like a ray of sunshine, piercing the thick, dark clouds gathered around me.
My sharp inhale feels like my first breath since seeing her in that stall.
“Summer!” I topple off the stool I’m sitting on and fall to my knees by her bed.
My sister slowly turns her head to me. “Spring?”
“Yes,” I half–sob, half–laugh, furiously blinking back tears so I can see her properly.
It feels like a dream–no, the last couple of…hours? Days? That’s what feels like a dream.
As my sister blinks up at me, it feels like I’m waking up from a nightmare, being pulled out of a horrific trance.
I reach out and gingerly cup her face, careful not to touch the bandage around her forehead.
“Why…why are you crying?” June asks softly.
I shake my head. “No.” I sniff. “I’m not crying, baby.”
She exhales, and her eyes close. “Liar,” she whispers.
My head drops to the bed next to her head as my entire body trembles, feeling shockwaves running through me.
My hand is still on her cheek, and I keep it there, feeling her warmth, reminding myself that she’s real, she’s here. She’s alive.
I hear the door open behind me, but don’t move from my spot.
Distinct clicking echoes on the tiled floor, and then I hear Penny’s voice.”
“Hey, fighter.”
I look up then, just as June opens her eyes again. She smiles softly. “Penny.”
Penny smiles. “Hi, honey. You gave us quite a scare.”
She reaches into her lab coat and retrieves a small flashlight. June squints when Penny shines the light in her eyes, which seems to please the doctor.
“Wh–what happened?”
Penny shakes her head as she pulls a stool towards her and perches on it. “That’s not important now, sweetie. I’m going to incline the bed a little so I can examine you. Think you can manage that?”
“Mmm–hmm.”

Chapter 105
Penny presses a button at the head of the bed, and the first half slowly rises.
“C-can I have some water?”
200
I instinctively reach for the jug on the bedside locker, but Penny shakes her head. “Not just yet, honey. I don’t want to risk you vomiting or accidentally aspirating the water, okay?”
June tries to nod and winces.
“Does your head hurt?”
“Yeah.
“What about your neck?”
“Stiff.”
“Does it hurt when I do this?” Penny leans forward and gently presses the back of June’s head.”
“Only a little.”
Penny nods. “Good, good.”
She smiles softly at me. “Why don’t you go ahead and pour her a small cup of water?”
While I carry out the simple task, my hands shake so badly that I spill water everywhere.
“Are you okay, Spring?” June asks softly.
I almost burst into incredulous laughter. She’s the one who suffered from blunt force trauma, and my sister is checking in on me.
“Slow sips, okay?” Penny says as I hold the cup to June’s mouth. “April, support her neck.”
The room is silent as June slowly sips the water. When she’s done, I return the half–empty cup to the side table.
“What happened?” June asks me.
“You don’t remember?”
“No,” she answers. “The last thing I remember was going to find you. Did I get hurt then?” She turns to Penny.
“Will I be okay?”
The question–the small, hopeful way she asked it–tears something inside me, and I feel myself crumpling all over again.
Penny smiles and gently pats her hand, which has an IV line connected to it. “You’ll be just fine, sweetie.”
“What about Spring?” June asks, and I look up. “Will she be okay?”

Chapter 105
Penny looks at me, and her smile turns a little sad. “Now that you are, I’m sure she’ll be, too.”
Then, the doctor stands. “I’ll let you two be alone and come check up on you soon, okay?”
June offers her a small smile. “Thank you.”
“Thank you,” I echo, knowing that the gratitude I feel for Dr. Penny Carter can never be adequately expressed with those two words.
“Actually, April, could I talk to you for a quick sec?”
I glance at June and then back at Penny. I have no desire to leave my sister’s side, but before I can protest, Penny says, “It’ll be real quick and we’ll be just outside.”
I sigh. “Okay.”
I press my fingers to June’s cheek. “I’ll be right back, Spring.”
When I stand to my feet, a wave of dizziness washes over me, and I have to grab the table beside me to keep from falling to the floor.
“Woah, careful.” Penny grabs my arm, helping to keep me steady as we slowly walk to the door.
Outside June’s room, I lean against the wall, not trusting my own feet to hold me upright.
For some reason, I feel dizzy and exhausted.
“I’m putting you on bed rest and administering you IV fluids,” Penny declares.
I frown at her. “What? Why?”
She raises a brow. “Why? You realize this is the first time you’re speaking in two days, right?.”
My eyes widen. “It’s been two days?”
She nods. “And in that time, you’ve been in a trance, moving on autopilot. You haven’t spoken to anyone, slept, eaten or even drunk
water.”
Well, that would explain the exhaustion.
“Oh.”
Penny sighs and squeezes my shoulder. “I know you were in shock,” she says gently. “I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I found my son in that position. But you can’t ever let yourself slip like that again, okay?”
“I…” A shudder runs through me.
Two days.
It doesn’t feel like that. It feels like the last forty–eight hours collapsed, so my memory jumps from seeing June in the stall to hearing her voice when she woke up.

Chapter 105
“I’m sorry.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for, but–are you okay?”
I clutch my temple, wincing. The room is suddenly spinning, and Penny’s voice sounds muffled. It’s like I’m underwater, and she’s speaking from the surface.
My knees buckle, and I slide to the floor.
A strong pair of arms catches me just in time, pulling me to a solid body.
I blink up, desperately wishing the room would stop fucking spinning.
“April?” Nathan’s muffled voice is tight.
“There’s…” My voice is slurring. “…two of you.”
He pulls me to him, his arms tight around me, and he–well, both of him–is the last thing I see before the room spins into nothing.
