Chapter 11
Amelia’s POV
“So. Hailey, based on the symptoms you described, burning during urination, lower abdominal pain. and bases on the results from your urinalysis, it looks like you have a urinary tract infection,” I explained gently, keeping my tone calm so she wouldn’t worry more than she already did.
She shifted on the exam table, fidgeting with the edge of the paper sheet. “I had a feeling it might be that,” she admitted, her voice low. “Is it serious?”
“Not serious,” I reassured her quickly, offering a small smile. “But definitely something you’ll want to treat right away so it doesn’t get worse. I’m going to prescribe you a course of antibiotics.nitrofurantoin. You’ll need to take it twice a day for seven days. And it’s very important you complete the whole course, even if you start to feel better halfway through. Okay?”
Hailey nodded, as a look of relief splayed across her face. “Okay, that sounds manageable. I’ll make sure to do that.”
“Good,” I said, already scribbling on the prescription pad. “I’ll also recommend you drink plenty of water to flush out the bacteria. And, at least for now, avoid caffeine and alcohol. They can irritate your bladder.” I looked up, making sure she was following. “If you develop a fever or back pain, you need to come back immediately. That could mean the infection is spreading, and we don’t want that.”
Her shoulders relaxed a little, and she let out a long breath. “Thank you, Dr. Amelia. Honestly, I was worried it was something worse.”
I smiled as I signed the prescription and tore it off for her. “One last thing—you might feel some discomfort. If you do, you can take phenazopyridine for the pain. It’s available over the counter. Just a heads up, it’ll turn your urine a bright orange color, so don’t be alarmed if you notice that.”
Emma actually chuckled at that, the tension finally easing from her. “Good to know. Thank you so much, doctor. I’ll follow everything you said.”
“Perfect. I’ll see you in a week for a follow–up, just to make sure the infection has completely cleared up.”
She gave me one more grateful smile before slipping off the table and heading out of the room.
The door clicked shut behind her, and I leaned back in my chair with a soft sigh. That was my last patient of the shift, and thank God for it. My eyes felt heavy, and my body was aching for a real bed. I glanced at the clock. Eight a.m. exactly. My night shift was officially over, and I couldn’t have been more ready to go home.
I changed out of my scrubs, folding them neatly before tucking them into my shuttle bag. Slinging the strap over my shoulder, I was halfway to the door when it swung open unexpectedly.
Nurse Lydia walked in.
“Lydia, is there an issue?” I asked, adjusting the strap of my shuttle bag on my shoulder. “You know I’m about to clock out, so whatever it is, wait for Dr. Steven.”
But I wasn’t ready for the next person who stepped in behind her.
My heart skipped. Him.
I hadn’t expected to see him again,at least not this soon. I’d deliberately scheduled his next appointment for two weeks later, buying myself enough time to pull my emotions together before facing him again.
What was he doing here?

“Mr. Montgomery.” I said, forcing a polite smule outo my lips. “What a simprise.”
Tim sorry,” Lilia mumbled quickly. “I told him you were already done with your shift
My eyes flicked back to him, slowly taking him in before I could stop myself.
Who the hell wore a designer suit to a doctor’s appointment?
He had on navy Tom Ford suilt that looked like it was tailored perfectly to accentuate his broad shoulders. Paired with a crisp white shirt, the man looked like he belonged on the cover of GQ, not sitting in a clinic with fresh stitches still peeking angrily at his temple.
The swelling had gone down drastically since the last time I saw him, but the wound… it looked like he’d tampered with it.
Stubborn man.
Yet despite all of that, despite the injury and the faint traces of exhaustion around his eyes, he still looked like he’d been carved by the gods themselves.
I caught myself almost instantly, snapping the thought away before it could go any further. Edmund Montgomery was a married man. And, above all, he was my patient. I shouldn’t be looking at him like that. Not anymore.
“Thank you, Lydia,” I said, keeping my tone steady. “It’s fine. Mr. Montgomery is a very important patient, and I’ll attend to him quickly before I leave.”
She nodded and hurried out, leaving the tension behind as the door clicked shut. Now it was just him and me.
Goddammit, Amelia. Get a grip on your racing heart.
I cleared my throat, moving back to my desk. “Your next appointment is in approximately two weeks,” I reminded him. gesturing toward the chair opposite mine as I sat down. “So, is there a reason you’re here just three days after you were discharged for a checkup?”
He didn’t sit right away. Instead, he just stood there, watching me. Not casually, not absently but intently. His eyes searched my face like he was reading- searching for something hidden between the lines, something I didn’t even know was there.
Heat rushed to my cheeks under the intensity of his gaze. I looked away, suddenly fascinated by the papers scattered on my desk, and cleared my throat again. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
His lips curved into the faintest smile. “Nothing,” he said, but the softness in his voice told me it was far from nothing.
“Okay, well, in that case, please lay down on the table over there so I can assess you,” I said, trying to sound calm even though my heart was doing somersaults in my chest. “Take off your jacket and shirt before doing so.”
I moved toward the examination bed and stood beside it, waiting.
He shrugged off his jacket slowly, like he was on some runway, not breaking oh eye contact, and then he smirked at me. “You don’t want me to take off my pants too? I’d gladly do that as well.”
And then he winked.
This bloody man winked.
My cheeks instantly burned, and I tore my gaze away, staring hard at the wall like it suddenly held the secrets of the universe. “On the bed, please, sir,” I managed, my voice sounding smaller than I wanted it to be.
“Man, I love it when you blush,” he chuckled, clearly amused by my discomfort.

I ignored him, waiting for the sound of sbuffling, fabric moving to indicate he was actually listening to me and taking his shirt off But when I turned back. I froze
Yes, he’d taken off his shirt, his perfectly sculpted chest confirming that much. But that wasn’t what stole the wir from my lungs
In his hand, held out toward me, was a flower. Not just any flower.
A Juliet rose.
My hand flew to my mouth as a soft gasp escaped me. The very delicate peach petals looked so unreal in real life, and definitely out of place in my small office. And yet I couldn’t believ what I was actually seeing
My stomach knotted in disbelief.
Because that single flower in his hand… was worth more than ten million dollars.
Why the hell was he holding it towards me?
