Kevin just contacted me.”

Amy’s voice through the door broke the moment between Caspar and me!
I pulled away from his touch, my heart still racing from our almost–kiss.
What’s going on?‘ I asked Caspar, straightening my blouse with nervous fingers.
Caspar sighed, running a hand through his hair.
Ethan Cole has been searching for his missing sister for years. We recently found Amy–Kevin’s wife–who might have information.”
Ethan Cole? Daisy’s brother?” I asked, piecing together the connection.
Yes. Daisy isn’t their biological sibling,”
1 widen my eyes in surprise. And repeated.
Daisy isn’t their biological sister?”
Caspar leaned back against the headboard.
it’s a long story, Ethan’s biological sister was kidnapped shortly after birth. The kidnappers never returned her despite the ransom being paid.”
His expression darkened.
To prevent Mrs. Cole from having a complete breakdown, Robert–Ethan’s father–adopted a baby girl and told his wife they’d found their
daughter. That baby was Daisy,”
“They’ve been living with this secret all these years?” I asked, stunned by the revelation.
“Yes. Only a few people know the truth. The Coles raised Daisy as their own, but Ethan never stopped searching for their biological sister.”
“That’s… that’s heartbreaking,” I said, trying to process this new information.
‘Let’s go talk to Amy, Caspar said, opening the bedroom door.
We found Amy pacing nervously in the living room, clutching her phone fie a lifeline.
As I watched her, I recalled my surprise yesterday when I’d first discovered her presence in the house.
Edward had explained her difficult circumstances–an abused wife seekingefuge–and I’d assumed Caspar had simply offered her the nanny
position out of compassion.
I hadn’t realized there was another layer to the story.

Chapter 152
“Good morning, Mr. Thornton, Miss Lane,” Amy greeted us, her voice steadier than her posture.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, she got to the point.
“Should I tell Kevin where I am?” she asked, eyes darting between us.
Caspar nodded. “Go ahead. Send him the address.”
Amy’s fingers trembled as she typed out the message.
The weight of the decision was visible in the tight lines around her mouth.
The phone rang moments later, and Amy answered immediately.
She put it on speaker.
“You’re really at the Thornton house?”
Kevin’s voice crackled through the speaker, disbelief and excitement mingling in his tone.
“Yes,” Amy confirmed, glancing nervously at Caspar.
“I’m working as a nanny here.”

“A nanny? At Thornton’s place?” Kevin’s voice rose an octave.
“Holy shit, Amy! Do you know what kind of stuff must be in there? Watches, jewelry, cash…”
“What are you saying, Kevin?” Amy asked, she was full of disbelief..
“Think about it, babe,” Kevin’s voice took on a wheedling tone.
“Just a few nice things–a watch, maybe some jewelry. We could pay off my debts, start fresh. We could have a normal life again.”
Amy glanced at Caspar, who gave her a subtle nod.
She took a deep breath and forced enthusiasm into her voice.
“Do you really mean that, Kevin? If I do this, you’ll change? No more gambling, no more loans?”
“I swear, baby, Kevin’s voice turned eager.
“This is our chance. I’ll be a different man, I promise.”
“Okay,” Amy said, sounding as if she was making a difficult decision.
“I’ll do it. I’ll take whatever I can find–jewelry, watches, maybe even cash Then I’ll meet you at the entrance on the east side of the Thornton
estate. Around ten tonight?”
“Perfect! Kevin practically shouted.

Tll be there right on time. Don’t worry about anything else.”
I’ll see you tonight,” Amy said.
After ending the call, Amy set the phone down with trembling hands.
She looked at us, her expression hardening.
“I’m done with him,” she said quietly.
“I’ve never been more disappointed in my life. I knew he had problems, but this…” She shook her head, unable to finish the thought.
‘I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“You have nothing to apologize for,” I said gently.
“This isn’t your fault, Amy.” I moved closer, wanting to offer some comfort
Amy gave me a grateful look, her eyes still shimmering with unshed tears. Thank you, Miss Lane.”
After Edward escorted Amy to the kitchen for lunch, Caspar led me to his study.
“I feel terrible for her,” I said, sinking into one of the leather chairs.
“Everything she’s been through…”
“You should be happy for her,” Caspar replied, his tone matter–of–fact.
“She’s finally seeing Kevin for what he truly is.”
“That doesn’t make it any less painful for her,” I pointed out.
“Of course not, but it’s necessary.” Caspar leaned against his desk, arms crossed.
“Gamblers like Kevin never truly change. Amy needed this wake–up call to break free of him.”
Before I could respond, my phone rang–Clara’s name flashing on the screen.
“Clara, hi,” I answered.
‘Audrey! Finley and I are coming over tonight,” she announced without preamble.
My gaze snapped to Caspar. “Tonight?”
“Yes! Tonight, perhaps a secret will be revealed.”
There was unmistakable excitement in her voice.
“You know about this too?” I asked, surprised.

“Wait, you already know? Clara sounded equally confused.
“How did you–never mind, we’ll discuss everything tonight.”
After we hung up, I turned to Caspar with raised eyebrows.
“Clara knows about the Cole family secret?”
“Amy must have contacted Ethan,” Caspar replied.
“And Ethan likely told Finley and Clara. The pieces are coming together faster than I anticipated.”
He stood up and straightened his tie. “Let’s go have lunch.”
“Lunch? Why not eat here?” I asked, gesturing toward the house.
Edward always prepares something.”
“Consider it my apology for last night’s… indiscretion with alcohol, Caspar said. “I owe you a proper meal after you took care of me.”
I hesitated, but the genuine look in his eyes made it difficult to refuse. “Alright, I’ll join you.”
The restaurant was one of those exclusive Manhattan establishments where tables were spaced far enough apart for privacy.
We were led to a corner table where, to my surprise, Sophia Walker was already seated.
Sophia smiled and greeted me warmly.
I felt my cheeks flush instantly as memories from last night flooded back–To prove my relationship with Caspar, I asked him to kiss me right
then and there.
I cleared my throat.
“You didn’t tell me you had invited someone else.”
