Accidentally Crossing the Tycoon
Chapter 160
The city highre Murred past the window as we made our way back to Manhattan from the Thornton estate.
My mind was still fasting from everything we’d discovered today.
After twenty empan years of searching. I finally had a fangible lead on my sters whereabouts.
The polity that she might still be alive sent waves of hope through me that I hadn’t felt in decades,
You seem snusvally cheerful for someone who just interrogated a criminal Finley remarked from behind the wheel, his eyes briefly meeting mine in the rearview mirror.
I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face.
Can you blame me? After all these years, we might actually find her, Fin
Finley nodded, his expression thoughtful.
So when do you plan to tell Daisy about all this?”
The question schered me instantly.
I hadn’t given much thought to how Daisy would take the news.
Not yet, I said firmly. I need to confirm everything first. If we find our biological sister, I’ll tell Daisy then.”
You don’t think she deserves to know now? Finley’s tone was curious.
I sighed, rubbing my temples.
What good would it do to upset her with maybes and possibilities? You know how she is. She’d immediately jump to worst-case scenarios, thinking we’re going to cast her aside or something equally ridiculous.”
Fair point, Finley conceded.
“But don’t wait too long Secrets have a way of coming out at the worst possible moments.”
The rest of the drive passed in comfortable silence.
By the time we reached our apartment, it was well past midnight.
Finley dropped me off, heading home to Clara.
I made my way through the quiet lobby, nodding to the night doorman before taking the elevator up to our floor.
The apartmend was dimly lit and eerily quiet when I entered.

Chapter 160
1 loosened my tie, feeling the weight of the day settling on my shoulders.
Despite my exhaustion, I needed to check on Daisy. She’d been acting unpredictably lately, and I wanted to make sure she was okay.
I made my way down the hallway to her bedroom and knocked softly on the door.
Daisy? Are you awake?
No response. I knocked again, a little louder this time.
Daze? It’s me, Ethan.”
Still nothing. Concern started to gnaw at me.
I was about to knock a third time when the door suddenly swung open.
Daisy stood there in silk pajamas, her face set in a cold mask that did nothing to hide the redness around her eyes.
She’d been crying.
Oh, so now you remember i exist,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm,
I blinked, taken aback by her hostility.
What are you talking about?”
I’ve been calling and texting you all day, Ethan. All. Day.”
She held up her phone as if it were evidence in a trial.
Not a single response.”
Guilt washed over me.
In the rush of interrogating Kevin and the revelation about my sister, I’d completely forgotten to check my phone.
Im sorry, Daisy. I was dealing with some important business and-”
“Important business,” she cut me off with a bitter laugh.
Yes, I’m sure whatever you were doing with Finley at the Thornton estate was very important.”
My blood ran cold. “How did you know I was at Thornton’s?”
Her eyes narrowed. So you don’t even deny it. Great.”
She turned away, walking back into her room. I followed her in.
“Daisy, we are dealing with something important with Caspar

“Save it, Ethan,” she interrupted, sitting down on the edge of her bed.
‘I’m used to being the last to know everything around here. I’m basically an outsider in this family now, aren’t I?”
Her words cut deeper than she knew.
“That’s not true, and you know it.”

“Isn’t it?” She looked up at me, her eyes swimming with tears.
You and Finley have your secret meetings. You’re both constantly whispering about things I’m not allowed to know. Even Clara knows more about what’s going on than I do, and she’s only been part of this family for what, a month?”
I ran a hand through my hair, frustration building.
“Daisy, this isn’t about excluding you. There are just some matters that-
“That what? She stood up, anger replacing her hurt. “I’m not a child, Ethan!”
I tried to find the right words.
“Daisy, I know things have been… tense lately. But I need you to understand that doesn’t mean I care about you any less.”
Her lower lip trembled slightly.
“But you’re looking for her, aren’t you? Your real sister.”
I felt like the floor had dropped out from under me.
My mouth went dry as I stared at her, completely blindsided.
How could she possibly know? We’d been so careful.
“Daisy- I started, then she interrupted me.
“Don’t lie to me,” she whispered.
‘I overheard you and Finley talking the other day.”
I didn’t see any point in denying it now. “Yes.”
A single tear slid down her cheek.
“And when you find her? What happens to me?”
The vulnerability in her voice broke my heart.
I crossed the room and pulled her into a hug, feeling her body stiffen before reluctantly melting into the embrace,
“Nothing happens to you,” I said firmly. “You are my sister, Daisy. Nothing will ever change that.”

But not your real sister, she mumbled against my shoulder.
I pulled back, holding her at arm’s length to look her in the eyes.
Family isn’t just about blood, Daisy. You’ve been my sister for twenty-seven years. No DNA test can erase that.”
She searched my face, looking for any sign of insincerity.
You say that now, but what if you find her and she’s… I don’t know, perfect? What if you like her better?”
The question was so absurd 1 almost laughed, but the genuine fear in Daisy’s eyes stopped me.
“That’s not how love works, Daisy. It’s not a competition. My heart isn’t divided into portions to be distributed based on merit.”
Her shoulders slumped slightly.
She took a deep breath, her voice steadier when she spoke again.
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t find her, Ethan. I want you to have that closure. I just…” she paused, wrapping her arms around herself. “I’m scared. I’m scared of what changes she might bring to our family.”
“I understand,” I said softly, relieved that her anger had subsided.
“You will always be my little sister.”
Daisy looked up at me hesitantly.
“Could we… could we keep this between us for now? I don’t think Mom and Dad need to know yet. Not until you’re sure.”
“Of course,” I agreed immediately. “There’s no point in upsetting them with maybes and possibilities.”
As I watched her fidget with the hem of her sleeve, I couldn’t help but feel a pang in my chest.
When had my bold, outspoken sister become this cautious, insecure young woman?
The weight of that realization settled on my shoulders like a physical burden.
