Chapter 25

Caspar’s POV

The next morning, I found Noah already dressed and waiting in the foyer, clutching a drawing clearly meant for Audrey and a handmade greeting card in his

small hands

His eyes sparkled with anticipation, obviously eager to get going

I looked down at my own empty hands and suddenly felt something was amiss

Half an hour later, I walked into the hospital lobby carrying a bouquet of simple yet elegant white tulips, holding Noah’s little hand

As we walked through the corridor and were about to turn toward the ward area, Noah suddenly stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on the hospital

cafeteria

Following his line of sight, I saw Audrey

She was sitting by the window, sunlight streaming through the floortoceiling glass, casting a soft golden halo around her

She was having breakfast with a young man, chatting and laughing, her smile bright and relaxed

An inexplicable sense of displeasure rose from the depths of

my heart

In front of me, she always seemed reserved and guarded, with a hint of wariness in her eyes and careful restraint in her words

But at this moment, she was laughing so naturally, as if she had let down all her defenses

Just then, Audrey looked up and noticed us standing at the cafeteria entrance. She set down her coffee cup and waved at us

Caspar, Noah, good morning! Her voice was clear and pleasant

I maintained a calm expression as I led Noah to her table

The young man looked up at us with a flash of confusion in his eyes

You are?he asked hesitantly, his gaze moving back and forth between Audrey and me

Just as Audrey was about to explain, a passing nurse smiled and greeted her: Ms. Lane, are you feeling better today? Your husband and son came to see

you?”

The young man’s eyebrows rose slightly, a look of understanding and disappointment crossing his face. He quickly stood up: I just remembered I have something urgent to take care of. I should go. Audrey, I hope you recover soon.”

Wait, you’ve misunderstoodAudrey tried to explain, but he had already hurried out of the cafeteria

Audrey turned to me, smiling but with a hint of dissatisfaction in her eyes: Why haven’t you clarified our relationship with the hospital staff yet?”

I shrugged nonchalantly and gracefully sat down in the chair across from her: You’re being discharged soon anyway. It’s too much trouble to clarify such

trivial matters.”

Chapter 25

I gestured for Noah to sit down as well, then poured him a glass of juice

Trouble?Audrey lowered her voice. This isn’t trivialyou’re blocking my romantic prospects!”

A flash of coldness crossed my eyes: Oh? Was he your romantic interest?”

Of course not, Audrey shook her head. He was just someone I met during breakfast.”

Then there’s no problem, is there? My tone carried a barely perceptible note of satisfaction. Since he wasn’t anyone important, there was no real impact

caused, right?”

Audrey pressed her lips together, clearly unable to argue back, and simply let out a soft sigh before turning her head toward the window in apparent sulking

After breakfast, we returned to Audrey’s hospital room

Noah quietly drew in the corner while I stood by the window, gazing at the busy New York street scene outside

About your car accident,I suddenly turned to Audrey, my expression becoming serious, there’s something I need to tell you. The accident was orchestrated by Vanessa.”

Audrey looked at me in surprise: Vanessa?”

I nodded: Ever since you exposed her abuse of Noah, the Thornton family cut all ties with the Brown family. I didn’t expect her to blame everything on

you.”

A flash of remorse crossed my eyes. If it weren’t for you discovering what she did to Noah, you wouldn’t have become her target for revenge.”

Audrey fell silent for a moment, looking down at her bandaged arm, her expression unreadable

I’ve dealt with the Brown family,I continued, my voice calm and steady. All their social circles in New York will be closed to them, and their business will be affected as well.”

Audrey seemed to remember something and looked up: This morning’s news mentioned that the Brown family suddenly faced a financial crisis”

I didn’t respond directly, only nodded slightly

Audrey’s expression was complex, as if she’d been shocked

I noticed her reaction and didn’t want her to develop fear toward me

Don’t worry, I’m a person who distinguishes right from wrong,I softened my tone

I always adhere to principles and don’t actively seek trouble. But if someone crosses the line ortrespasses into my private domain,I paused, looking directly at Audrey, I will definitely investigate thoroughly and make them pay the price.”

I thought this explanation would help her relax, but unexpectedly, Audrey’s body seemed to tense up even more. Her fingers unconsciously twisted together, and her eyes flickered uncertainly

She opened her mouth as if to say something, but when she met my gaze, she swallowed her words

Chapter 25

I could sense her inner struggle, as if some secret was weighing heavily on her heart

What ifshe suddenly spoke, her voice so soft it was barely audible, then stopped again

I raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue

What if someone accidentally did something wrong, she finally gathered courage, carefully choosing her words, and maybeperhapsunintentionally hurt you, what would you do?”

Her eyes were fixed on her fingers, not daring to look at my reaction

That would depend on the circumstances,I answered slowly, observing her expression. What kind of harm’ are we talking about

Audrey’s cheeks flushed slightly: Justan awkward misunderstanding.”

I pondered for a moment, my gaze becoming profound: Since harm has been done, whether intentional or not, the person involved must take responsibility

for their actions.”

My tone was calm and firm. In my world, every action has corresponding consequences.”

I saw Audrey’s fingers grip the edge of the bedsheet tightly, her throat seeming to constrict

II was just asking casually, she suddenly changed the subject, her voice slightly trembling

By the way, how is Noah’s drawing today? He’s made great progress lately.”

I narrowed my eyes slightly and didn’t respond

Her reaction was far too obvious. Clearly, she was hiding something from me

The room fell into a strange silence, with only the sound of Noah’s pencil scratching against paper
