As Nathan spoke, Eliana’s eyes became even more focused on him, her expression growing more serious.
Seeing her like that, Nathan went on, “Eliana, you have no idea how much I regretted it.”
He continued, “Watching you turn and walk away, I felt awful. I still can’t figure out why I said those things just to impress a bunch of people who didn’t even matter.
“You were the only one I truly cared about, but I ended up hurting you for people who meant nothing to me.

As Nathan thought about it, his gaze on Eliana grew more earnest.
His eyes were deep, his feelings laid bare for her to see.

For the next few days, Nathan stuck by Eliana’s side the whole time, waiting patiently as she gradually got back on her feet.
During those days, Irene, Wesley, and Sarah dropped by to check on her several times. Whenever they came, Eliana would force herself to act cheerful, so that they wouldn’t get too worried about her.
Sarah really wanted to stay and keep Eliana company for a while, but every time she saw how close Eliana and Nathan were, she held herself back and didn’t stick around.

Sarah added, “He’s so successful. Women are practically lining up for him. Why would he pick Eliana out of everyone?
“I’m not trying to be negative, and it’s not that Eliana isn’t wonderful, but let’s be honest. She’s been married and has a kid. Most guys wouldn’t react like this, right?”
Wesley nodded. He really wanted Eliana to find someone good, but logically, he had to admit Sarah was right.
But after watching Nathan these past few days, Wesley couldn’t help but think Nathan was genuinely into Eliana.
Wesley was sharp when it came to reading people, and he could spot Nathan’s feelings for Eliana in every little thing he did.
He thought, “Those subtle gestures, there’s just no way anyone could fake that.
As Wesley thought about it, he couldn’t help but remember how weird Irene was to Nathan.
When it came to Logan, Irene couldn’t stand him. She was always telling Eliana to leave him, and even got into fights with her over it.
But with Nathan, Irene was totally supportive. She kept nudging everyone to give Nathan and Eliana some space.
“If Irene backs their relationship, then it’s probably fine,” Wesley told Sarah.
Sarah finally nodded.
The couple really did trust Irene, and since she was so supportive of Nathan, they decided not to worry about it anymore.
With Nathan taking care of her with such patience and attention, Eliana bounced back in no time.
On the day Eliana was discharged from the hospital, Nathan picked her up and brought her home. Wesley, just being polite, invited him inside for a while.
Everyone knew it was just for being polite, but Nathan actually went along with it and walked right in.
Now that he was already inside, Eliana couldn’t exactly kick him out, so she just gave him a look that could kill.
But Nathan was being cheeky. He didn’t give a damn and just actedas if he belonged there.
Sarah and Wesley were in high spirits, so they asked Eliana to give Nathan a quick tour of the house while they headed to the kitchen to get dinner started.

Nathan put on an innocent face and said, “Really? I had no idea. I thought Sarah actually wanted me to come in and sit for a while, so I figured I couldn’t turn her down.”
“Wait, so she didn’t really want me here?” he asked, feigning surprise.
“Guess I should go ask her,” he said, making a show of heading toward the kitchen.
Nathan, still playing innocent, breezed right past Eliana, pretending he was really going to march into the kitchen.
Eliana was so startled she nearly jumped. She hadn’t expected him actually to ask her parents. She grabbed his arm in a panic, pulling him back. “Stop messing around…” she said, flustered.
Eliana hadn’t even pulled that hard, but Nathan just went along with it, leaning in and wrapping her up in his arms before she could react.
Her face flushed bright red, and she instinctively tried to push him away.
“Nathan, quit playing games! Let me go already!” Eliana blurted out, her cheeks burning.
Eliana’s face was bright red as she looked him straight in the eye and said seriously.
But Nathan just leaned in closer, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. “Weren’t you the one who pulled me over here? Eliana, don’t pretend you didn’t just do that.”
