Chapter 142
“Open up, Eliana,” Nathan said softly at the door. “I just want to come in and talk for a sec.”
“Eliana, open the door, be good…” he coaxed.
Nathan was definitely a little drunk, rambling to himself outside the door.
Eliana really couldn’t resist him anymore, so she opened the door.
As soon as the door cracked open, Nathan squeezed in and quickly closed it behind them.
In the dead quiet of the night, the soft click of the lock echoed, and for a moment, Eliana’s heart was thrown into chaos.
She’d gotten out of bed in a hurry and hadn’t bothered to turn on the lights.
She knew her place like the back of her hand, so walking over in the dark didn’t feel strange at all.
But now, with Nathan in the room, she suddenly realized that all her feelings seemed to intensify in the darkness.
Even his breathing sounded so clear in the darkness.
Her heart skipped a beat, and Eliana hurried to turn on the light.
But before she could even touch the switch, Nathan grabbed her wrist.
His big hand wrapped firmly around her wrist, his palm hot and dry, and the feeling was impossible for Eliana to ignore.
She took a deep breath, trying not to let her mind wander, and gently tried to pull her wrist free. “Didn’t you say you had something to say? Just spit it out and go back to sleep.”
“Nathan, if my parents find you in my room, you’re so busted!” Eliana warned, gritting her teeth and trying to sound tough.
Nathan looked at her, thinking she was just too cute, and chuckled softly. “How are you so adorable?”
His words made Eliana pause, caught off guard for a moment.
In that moment, she finally realized Nathan really was drunk.
“Nathan…” Eliana murmured.
“Eliana, I just want to hold you…” Nathan looked her in the eyes, speaking with heartfelt seriousness. This all feels so antrex, and honestly, I’m a little scared.”
As he said this, he wrapped her tightly in his arms.
Feeling her truly in his embrace, Nathan let out a long, relieved breath and closed his eyes in satisfaction
All those years overseas, Nathan had dreamed over and over about getting back together with Eliana.
He thought, ‘In those dreams, I’d be bursting with joy, but every time I tried to pull her into my arms. I’d always end up clutching at thin air. And then I’d snap awake.
And every time I woke up, disappointment would crash over me like a tidal wave.

Listening to him and feeling his arms around her, Eliana felt her nose tingle. She was on the verge of tears.
She understood that feeling all too well.
But she’d always thought she was the only one who felt this way. She never imagined Nathan felt the same.
Sometimes, those soft words and genuine care could move her more than any teasing or flirting ever could.
Eliana’s heart was all over the place. Instinctively, she hugged him tighter, then slowly looked up and pressed her lips to his.
Nathan froze for a split second, then leaned in and kissed her back, matching her passion with his own.
In the darkness, their emotions just ran wild, impossible to hold back.
Nathan’s breath was laced with alcohol, and as their lips met, Eliana felt tipsy from his kiss alone.
Before she knew it, the world spun, and Nathan had lifted her onto the dresser. Her legs wrapped around him on instinct, her mind barely catching up.
Leaning back, hands gripping the edge of the dresser, Eliana tilted her face up, answering his kiss with everything she had.
“Eliana…” Nathan whispered in her ear after a long pause. “Do you realize that when you do this, I can’t help but lose control?”
Eliana thought, ‘His voice was intoxicating in the darkness, making my heart flutter wildly.
‘I knew exactly what he meant. I’d just thrown caution to the wind, swept up in the rush of emotion.
‘But now, as his words sank in, it hit me what I was actually doing.
“This kind of wild, out–of–control feeling was totally new to me, and I didn’t hate it at all. If anything, it was like I’d been revived from a lifeless shell, finally feeling alive again.
‘In my previous life, I’d been stuck by Logan’s side, trapped in a loveless marriage, never once feeling anything this raw or
intense.
‘So now, I actually liked this bold, passionate version of myself!
The darkness gave her a shot of courage, and Eliana glanced up at Nathan, playing with fire. “And what exactly do you mean by ‘lose control?”
In the next instant, Nathan caught her hand and guided it right to him.
When she realized what he was doing, Eliana’s heart raced. She jerked her hand back fast. “Nathan!”
“Mmm…” Nathan murmured, his voice slow and a little slurred. “Easy now, don’t wake up your parents.”
“You…” Eliana was so flustered she could barely speak.
Her cheeks were burning, and she couldn’t keep facing him like this. She tried to shove him away, but he just pressed her right back against the dresser.

Nathan’s voice was lazy and thick with alcohol, irresistibly tempting in the dark
Eliana looked at him, her mind a total mess. She couldn’t even think straight, let alone talk sense into hom. So she used. “Go back to your room.”
“Not yet… I don’t want to leave, Nathan murmured, leaning in for another kiss.
This was addictive. He couldn’t get enough of her.
But just as he leaned in, Eliana instinctively turned her head away.
Nathan’s kiss landed in the hollow of her neck instead.
He didn’t get annoyed at all. Instead, he buried his face even deeper in the curve of her neck, totally shameless, his hand sliding under her pajamas and teasing at the fabric.
Nathan had her so worked up she couldn’t think straight. As his hand slipped under her pajamas, her fingers instinctively tangled in his hair.
Waves of feelings she’d never known before crashed over her. Her mind just short–circuited. She had no idea how she ende up in his arms, carried from the dresser to the bed.
But Nathan didn’t take things any further. He just held her, pulling her close. “Let me just hold you while you sleep, okay?
Eliana could feel how hard he was fighting to keep himself in check, so she didn’t try to make him leave. Instead, she whispered a quiet “okay” and let herself melt into his arms.
She figured there was no way she’d get any sleep like this, but she ended up sleeping better than she had in ages
When she finally woke up, sunlight was pouring in, and it was only Sarah’s knock at the door that actually got her up.
She moved to sit up on instinct, only to realize there was a big hand still locked tight around her waist.
Still groggy, Eliana turned over and saw Nathan lying right there next to her.
