Chapter 163
Nathan gazed at Eliana, his eyes filled with deep tenderness and intense passion.

As he gently released her, catching the slightly bewildered look in her eyes, the emotion in his gaze grew even more intense.
He looked at her seriously, speaking one word at a time. “Eliana, when will you finally make our relationship official?”
But even though he spoke with such sincerity, the words almost got stuck in his throat and barely made it out.
Eliana, already a bit slow to react when she’d had too much to drink, looked at him with a dazed expression. “What did you say?”
There were things Nathan could say once, but he just didn’t have it in him to say them again.
Nathan knew he couldn’t push his luck with her.
After all, Eliana had just come out of a divorce. If he pressed her now, it would only backfire.
He’d waited ten years already; waiting a little longer didn’t faze him at all.
With that thought, Nathan just gave a gentle smile, his eyes lingering on her lips, not saying another word.
His gaze was deep and intense as he stared at her for a while, watching her lips part and close, his mind running wild with thoughts he knew he shouldn’t be having.
After all these years of being single, Nathan would never admit to anyone that he was still…
But he was a normal guy, and seeing the woman he loved right in front of him, his instincts couldn’t help but stir.
Still, his love and respect for Eliana always managed to override those urges.
So, the moment those thoughts started to take over, he quickly reined in his emotions.
He lowered his head and took a deep breath to steady himself, then reached out and lightly brushed her nose. “How could you drink so much?”
“You can’t even handle your booze, but you still try to act tough.”
As he spoke, he leaned in, looking at her seriously. “No drinking when I’m not around, got it?”
Eliana was still a bit out of it, but she nodded obediently at his words.
Nathan knew she was still dazed and probably hadn’t really heard a single thing he said.
But when she nodded, he couldn’t help but smile, a flicker of amusement crossing his face.
After pulling the seatbelt over her and buckling it for her, Nathan finally started the car and drove off.
The other car had already disappeared from sight, but since Nathan and Eliana both knew where Irene lived, it was easy for them to find her building.
Soon, they pulled up at the entrance of Irene’s apartment complex.
The guy who’d brought Irene home saw Nathan and Eliana arrive, quickly got out of his car, and hurried over. “Mr. Turner,

Ms. Lyons, could you show me where she lives? I’ll help her get upstairs.”
Eliana hurriedly got out of the car.
Nathan got out as well, falling in step beside her.

At first, Eliana instinctively wanted to help, but when she saw how steady the guy was supporting Irene, she just led the way without interfering.
Irene was completely out cold by now, but luckily, Eliana knew her door code.
She quickly grabbed Irene to steady her, thanking the guy repeatedly.
The guy got the hint. After exchanging a quick goodbye with Eliana, he turned to Nathan and said, “Mr. Turner, I’m heading out now.”
Once Nathan nodded, she turned and quickly walked away.
After the guy was gone, Eliana turned to Nathan. “Why are you still hanging around?”
Hearing her say that with such a straight face, Nathan couldn’t help but laugh, half exasperated and half amused. “So you’re just using me for a safe ride home and then kicking me to the curb, huh?”
Eliana looked up at him, her expression serious. “Irene’s really drunk. I’m staying here with her tonight.”
“You’ve had way too much to drink yourself,” Nathan said, giving her a serious look. “Who are you even capable of taking care of right now?”
“I still have to look after her,” Eliana replied stubbornly.
Nathan just shook his head, realizing there was no arguing with her. “Fine, I’ll stay and make sure you two don’t get into
trouble.”
“It’s really not a good idea for you to stick around,” Eliana said with a frown. “Go on and head home. I’m totally fine.”
‘Oh, you’re fine? Then who was the one babbling nonsense in the car just now?” Nathan shot her a look, the concern in his eyes obvious.
Eliana glanced at him, and her thoughts immediately jumped back to the car.
She’d been completely out of it back then, but it was all his fault…
He was the reason her mind was such a mess.
Just thinking about it made her blush, and there was no way she could ever say it out loud to him.
Eliana took a deep breath and insisted, “I’m really sober now, I promise. Don’t worry, you can go home. I’ll make sure Irene’s okay.”
Nathan could see she was much more clear–headed, so he asked her a few more questions just to be sure. Once he was convinced she really was sober, he finally relented and let her have her way.
“Alright. If anything happens, just call me, okay?” Nathan said seriously.
“I mean it. Anytime, day or night. Don’t hesitate, Eliana. If you call, I’ll be there, even if it’s the middle of the night. You hear
me?”

“Got it,” Eliana replied, her voice steady and sincere.
Only then did Nathan reluctantly head toward the elevator, clearly unwilling to leave.
Eliana turned and opened the door, helping Irene inside.

Once they were in, Eliana called out to Irene several times, but she was totally out of it. With no other choice, Eliana helped her out of her jacket and got her to lie down.
Irene was so drunk she didn’t even stir through all of that.
Eliana could only let her sleep it off.
Once Irene was settled, Eliana finally sat down in the living room.
As everything around her grew quiet, Eliana’s mind drifted back to what Nathan had said just moments earlier.
Thinking about his sincere promise, that as long as she called, no matter how late, he’d be there for her, a gentle warmth bloomed in her heart.
That feeling spread from deep inside, wrapping around her completely. ‘He really means it,’ Eliana thought to herself. ‘I’m not alone.‘
Hearing Nathan’s words, Eliana’s mind flashed back to that time she almost died and made that desperate phone call.
Back then, with a steel pipe driven through her body, she knew she was done for.
All she wanted was to hear their voices one last time, to feel a little warmth, to know she was still loved, even if it was only for a moment before the end.
But all she received were their cold, distant words, each sentence drawing a sharp, unmistakable line between them. Even now, just remembering it felt like a knife to her heart.
Whether it was the memories from her previous life or just her emotions getting the better of her, before Eliana knew it, she grabbed her phone and sent Nathan a message.
