Chapter 174
Knowing Irene was really worn out, Ethan didn’t wake her up that morning.
He waited until it was almost time for her appointment with the client before finally giving her a call.
Irene was utterly exhausted.

She’d barely slept all night, and at that hour, she was dead to the world. The phone rang for what felt like ages before she slowly stirred.
The moment she woke and realized who was calling, she snatched up her phone and answered.
“Hello…” she mumbled, her voice still heavy with sleep.
In that instant, Irene’s cheeks flushed bright red. She quickly cleared her throat, trying to sound normal.
On the other end, as soon as Ethan heard her voice, everything that happened last night came rushing back to him, completely out of his control.
He drew in a deep breath, tamping down the sudden restlessness in his chest, then said seriously, “Time to get up. You need to get ready to meet the client.”
Irene quickly sat up and glanced at the clock, her brows knitting slightly.
She’d never slept this late before, and seeing the time made her uneasy. She hurriedly said, “Sorry, Mr. Drake. I slept in. My bad. I’ll be ready in a minute.”
Hearing Irene’s serious tone, Ethan couldn’t help but frown a little. He replied seriously, “It’s not your fault. It’s mine.”
As soon as the words slipped out, he realized they sounded a little off, so he quickly added, “There’s still time. Take time. I’ll wait for you in the restaurant downstairs.”
your
Irene quickly responded.
After hanging up, she didn’t waste a second. She quickly freshened up, got dressed, and applied her makeup.
After all, she was about to meet an important client, so she had to look professional and put together.
Once ready, Irene made a beeline downstairs straight to the restaurant.
Ethan had just finished ordering when he saw Irene walk in and waved her over.
Irene hurried over and sat down across from him. She asked seriously, “Do we still have time to cat? When are we meeting the client?
Ethan looked at her, let out a soft sigh, and said seriously, “No rush Just sit down. You haven’t eaten anything all morning”
Seeing him like that, Irene paused for a moment, then went ahead and sat down.
“You’re the one who told me to sit down and eat. If anything goes wrong with the client later, don’t blame me, Irene sail
Ethan couldn’t help but chuckle. ‘Do I really look like someone who shirks responsibility?”
Irene glanced up at him “Don’t you ever hear what people say about you at the firm‘

But seeing how tired she looked. Ethan didn’t say anything more. He just said seriously, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to pin anything on you this time. Go ahead and eat.”
As he spoke. Ethan leaned back in his chair and looked at her. “Honestly, it’s my fault you slept in today. If I hadn’t pushed so hard yesterday.
Irene happened to be drinking water when she heard that, and ended up choking on it.
She coughed for a moment before finally catching her breath. Looking at him, she said, “Let’s not say things like that, especially in the future. You really should watch what you say, Mr. Drake.”
She was still coughing as she spoke.
Seeing her like that., Ethan felt really frustrated inside. But everything she said made perfect sense, and he couldn’t argue

Ethan’s annoyance was obvious. He picked up his phone and checked the group chat to distract himself.
Noticing several new lawyers asking questions in the group chat, he actually started answering them for once.
But after answering just two questions, the group chat completely erupted.
Rookie A: [Oh my god, am I seeing this right? Mr. Drake actually replied to my question in the group chat?]
Rookie B: [Yeah, he answered mine too, and he was so detailed. I’m honestly freaking out right now.]
Rookie C: [Didn’t everyone say Mr. Drake is super cold and never talks in the group? He’s not as scary as the rumors say.]
A Veteran: [No way, I’ve been at the firm for years and this is the first time I’ve ever seen Mr. Drake reply in this group. This is wild. Whoever picked up his phone, please return it to the rightful owner, Ethan.]
Some Assistant: [Crap, Mr. Drake’s phone must’ve been stolen! What do we do now? Is this gonna be a security risk for the firm2]
Seeing the chat blow up, Ethan’s face darkened like a thundercloud.
He really shouldn’t have answered their questions on a whim. Now look at this: everyone’s acting like total drama queens.
Staring at the chaos in the group chat, his frustration only deepened; if anything, he was more irritated than before.
Irene had already started eating.
Seeing Ethan’s face darken while his phone buzzed nonstop, Irene’s curiosity got the best of her. She snatched up his phone for a peek.
After reading the messages, she let out a snicker she couldn’t hold back.
But when she noticed Ethan glaring at her, she set the phone down with deliberate slowness and teased. “Now you finally just how bad your reputation is with your coworkers, huh?
“Honestly, it’s not really their fault. I’ve been at the firm for years and I’ve never seen you reply to anyone, let alone answer basic questions from newbies.

“If this had happened before, you wouldn’t just ignore those messages. You’d probably scold their mentors for even letting them ask. So really, I can’t blame them. If I saw this, I’d think your phone got stolen too.
“But whoever stole your phone is actually being super helpful in the chat, which is just bizarre. The whole thing just feels
weird.”
Ethan listened to Irene’s straight–faced comments, his frown deepening even more.
But just as he was about to say something, his phone started ringing.
It was Nick, another partner at the firm.
Figuring Nick must need something, Ethan picked up immediately.
But as soon as Ethan picked up, Nick asked seriously, “Hey, did you just pick up this phone?
“Please don’t try to unlock it or reply to any messages. Just hand it over to the police or drop it off at a lost and found nearby.”
