Chapter 179
Martin wasn’t exactly thrilled about being stopped, and couldn’t help but feel a bit put out.

But with Ethan right there, he didn’t let it show. He just tossed out a casual remark and joined Ethan for a drink.
Ethan was never one to let himself get too drunk when he was out.
After a few rounds of drinks, seeing that they’d had enough, he stood up and said, “Mr. Campbell, we’ve covered most of what we needed to. It’s getting late, so we won’t take up any more of your time.”
He added, “We’ll be sticking around for a while, so if you have any more questions, just let us know. Or you can always reach out to us.”
He continued, “We’ll be here when the trial gets closer, so you don’t have to worry about that. Even if we head back, you can still call us if anything comes up.”
He concluded, “Rest assured, we’re going to give this case our all.”
These were just the usual polite lines Ethan used to wrap up a meal.
Normally, when someone said things like that, the other person would get the hint and let the meal end.
Martin had been around the business world for years, so he knew exactly what Ethan meant. He stood up as well.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with Ethan, Martin walked over to Irene. “Ms. Perry, I’m leaving this case in your hands. Please pay extra attention to it.”
He added, “You know everything I have is riding on this, so I really need you to give it your all, okay?”
Irene would never take a case like this lightly. She replied earnestly, “Mr. Campbell, you can rest assured. I’ll do everything I can. Right now, your case is my top priority.”
Hearing her say that, Martin finally looked a bit more satisfied.
Just as they were about to head out, Martin spoke up, “Ms. Perry, mind if I get your card? I just realized I don’t have your contact info
Hearing that, Irene quickly caught on and handed over her business card. “Sorry about that, Mr. Campbell I got caught up and totally forgot Here’s my card, feel free to reach out anytime if you need anything.”
Martin accepted the card with both hands, nodding. “Guess I’ll be relying on you from here on out.”
“You’re too kind, Mr. Campbell It’s what I’m here for Irene replied. After exchanging a few more polite words, Martin finally had someone escort her and Ethan outside.
The driver was already waiting at the entrance. Eshan walked over and gestured for Irene to get in first He waitest until she was settled before getting in himself
Once the car pulled away, Ethan turned to Irene with a serious look ‘You are not to meet Marth alone, understand??
Irene’s brows knit slightly at Ethan’s no–nonsense attitude ‘Is there something wrong with hime I honestly don’t see anything sketchy about the guy‘
She thought to herself, after all these years in the business and meeting all sorts of people, Martin really didn’t set off any problems for her.

Right then, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Ethan was just marking his territory.
Ever since she mentioned maybe going on a blind date and settling down, Ethan had been acting totally off.
So Irene didn’t really pay much attention to what he said.

But Ethan was different. Guys can always tell what other guys are thinking, and seeing how Martin’s attitude changed, especially when he went out of his way to ask Irene for her card, Ethan was pretty sure Martin already had something else in mind.
Irene was gorgeous, no doubt about it. If she wasn’t, Ethan wouldn’t be into her at all.
If even he couldn’t help but catch feelings, then someone like Martin definitely would too.
Most folks are pretty superficial, especially guys like Martin; they only care about looks.
So after seeing how stunning Irene was, it was only natural for Martin to start having other ideas about her.
But Ethan didn’t have any real proof; everything was just his own suspicion. When Irene questioned him, he didn’t really know how to answer, so with a bit of edge in his voice, he just said, “Just do as I say.”
Irene could tell he was clearly getting emotional, which only confirmed what she’d been thinking all along, so she didn’t say anything more.
They’d both had quite a bit to drink at dinner, and alcohol always made emotions run high. She worried that if she kept arguing. things might get ugly between them, so she wisely dropped the subject.
Seeing that Irene didn’t press the issue, Ethan figured she’d taken his words to heart and finally let out a sigh of relief, then told the driver to head back to the hotel.
Once they got to the hotel, they each headed to their own rooms.
After a long day, Irene was really wiped out.
Maybe it was because she hadn’t slept well the night before, but the moment she walked into her room, she couldn’t help but flop onto the bed.
She lay there for a while, and before she knew it, sleepiness hit her hard; she almost drifted off right then and there.
Still half–awake, Irene jumped in the shower. But the moment she stepped out, she saw her phone buzzing nonstop on the nightstand.
Worried something might’ve happened, she rushed over and grabbed it. Turns out, it was Martin calling.
She checked the time; it was already 10:30. Kind of caught off guard, but she kept it professional ‘Mr. Campbell, is there something you need?
Martin sounded genuinely apologetic on the other end. ‘Sorry to bother you so late, Ms. Perry. I’ve run into a bit of trouble I tried calling Mr. Drake, but for some reason, I couldn’t get through, so I ended up calling you
He went on, “I know you’re only handling my divorce, and helping with other maiters may not be your responsibility, but I’m really stuck right now. If you could stop by and help, it wouldn’t take long, and 1 il pay extra
Martin sounded pretty desperate, but when Irene pressed for details, he got cagey.
“It’s not something I can explain over the phone. If you could just come over, that’d be a big help. I’ve already tested you the
address,” he said.

Martin’s voice got a little more insistent. “Ms. Perry, seriously, I don’t want to mess up your night for nothing. Just let me know your rate, and I’ll make sure you’re paid for your time.”
“I’ll pay you for this separately, and when it comes to the case your firm’s handling, I’ll settle that with them later. No conflict at all,” he added.
“I figured since you and Mr. Drake are both around, it saves me the trouble of finding someone else. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have reached out to you guys,” he continued.
