Right at that moment, Ethan unexpectedly walked back in.

But Ethan strode right up to her, took the phone from her, and said, “Last night, I took Ms. Perry to the hospital for a check- up. I’ve already had someone look into the purchase records of the medication you used.
“Martin, I don’t know if you’ll win your divorce case, but you’re definitely going down for trying to hurt Ms. Perry. I’ll be her lawyer, and I’ll make sure you end up in jail.”
Martin was furious on the other end of the line, swearing furiously at Ethan.
Then, still fuming, he hung up without another word.
Only then did Ethan set the phone down on Irene’s bedside table.

“So why bother saying all that to him? Aren’t you just contradicting yourself?”

“You’re already stepping up to be my lawyer. I should be thanking you.”

Once everything was set, Ethan glanced at Irene and said, “Come on, eat while it’s still hot.”
Irene hadn’t felt hungry at first, but as soon as the mouthwatering aroma filled the room, she couldn’t help but feel her stomach rumble.
Not wanting to ignore her body’s signals, Irene skipped the pretense, grabbed a fork, and started eating.

A flicker of surprise flashed in Irene’s eyes as Ethan spoke. “You really don’t mind?” she asked, still a bit taken aback.
When Ethan nodded, Irene picked up her phone without a second thought and dialed the police.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office at Eliot Group, Logan’s phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and picked up right away. “Well? Did you get everything I asked for?”
