Chapter 2 I Don’t Want You Anymore

Eliana had barely finished speaking when Logan’s mother, Hannah Wilson, interrupted. Stop being so dramatic. How could we not know if Samuel is allergic to nuts? He’s already five. Are you saying you’re the only one who’s ever looked after him

I think you’re just trying to pick on Isabella. Children don’t lie. Listen to your own son. Even he thinks you’re being petty. Can’t you take a good look at yourself?”

With that, Hannah took Samuel’s hand. Come on, dear, let me help you cut the cake. Isabella made this just for you. If you don’t eat it, she’ll be so sad. Let’s not listen to your mother. She’s just being difficult. We won’t be like her.”

Eliana watched as Hannah helped Samuel cut the cake and pass it out to everyone in the room except her. She could only let out a bitter laugh

She’d always known Hannah never liked her. She and Logan had only married because of an old promise between their grandparents. But now the Lyons family had fallen on hard times, no longer a match for the Eliot family

Hannah had always looked down on Eliana. The daughterinlaw she truly wanted was Isabella, her best friend’s daughter. But Logan’s grandfather had insisted on honoring the old agreement, even threatening to keep the family power from Logan if he refused

To make matters worse, around that same time, Logan had been in a bad car accident while away on business. He fought for his life in the hospital, but Isabella left him and went abroad while he was still in danger

After Logan made it through the worst, he fell into a deep gloom. When Isabella sent him a text to break up, he agreed to marry Eliana on impulse. After the wedding, it was years of Eliana’s care that helped him regain his health completely

At first, they had at least treated each other with respect. But first love held such power that it could change everything. When Isabella returned, all that Eliana had built with Logan came undone

Mom, if you don’t like Isabella’s cake, then we won’t save any for you. Let this be a lesson. We hope you won’t act this way again,” Samuel said. Hearing such words from a fiveyearold was strange. Eliana knew very well that someone had taught him to say this

Ever since Isabella came back, Logan’s parents had found every excuse to take Samuel away. They let him spend more time with Isabella so they could get closer. And all the while, they never missed a chance to tell Samuel that his mother was a bad person

Children believed what they heard. When people told Samuel the same lie again and

again, he began to believe it. Eliana didn’t want to blame Samuel, but time after time, his simple yet sharp words broke her heart

Samuel was the child she had risked her life to bring into this world. Back then, she was alone in a foreign country and badly hurt. Everyone told her to give up the baby, warning her that keeping him would cost her own life. But she was determined to keep him

When he was born safe and sound, she cried and cried, seeing him as a gift from heaven. She loved him with all her heart. From the day he was born until his fifth birthday, she took care of him with more love and attention than most mothers ever did

In her past life, she couldn’t believe that the son she had raised with so much love would choose someone else over her. So she kept trying, doing everything she could to keep Samuel close

But all she got in return was the clear look of disgust in Samuel’s eyes. As he grew older, his dislike for her only grew. In the end, he even told her to her face that he was ashamed to have a mother like her

If only Isabella were my real mom,Samuel said coldly. Then my classmates wouldn’t laugh at me. They wouldn’t all say my mom is crazy.”

The memories cut deep. Even though none of this had happened in this life yet, just the thought of those words sent a sharp pain through Eliana’s chest, like her heart was being torn out

In my past life, I gave all my love and care, just to earn a little back from my own child. But it was all for nothing.A cold truth settled in her heart

Heaven has given me another chance. This time, I’ll live for myself,’ she thought. I’m done trying to warm people who can’t be warmed. I’m done with both of them. I don’t want Logan or Samuel anymore.‘

Yet as she watched Samuel take a bite of the cake, a mother’s instinct still tugged at her heart. She pushed the feeling down and looked away. Taking a deep breath, she turned to Logan and said, I want a divorce.”

Logan had just accepted the slice of cake from Isabella. Eliana’s words made his eyes turn cold in an instant. Eliana, it’s just a cake. Do you really have to make a scene? Today is Samuel’s birthday. Do you have to embarrass all of us like this in front of everyone?”

Eliana gave a bitter smile. She looked at Logan’s parents, then said, It was your grandfather who insisted on this marriage. Now that he’s gone, you don’t have to continue this anymore

I know your parents see Isabella as the perfect daughterinlaw. And to you, she’s the

right wife. Since Samuel also likes her, I’ll step aside and give you what you want. Tomorrow, we’ll file for divorce at the courthouse. I’ll meet you there at nine. With that, Eliana dropped her smile, turned, and walked out of the private room

Eliana, no, it’s not like that. Logan and I aren’t like that. Please believe me, or I won’t know how to face him.Isabella’s voice, thick with tears, came from behind, followed at once by Hannah’s sharp scolding

Eliana ignored them, but the next moment, Logan’s furious voice cut through the air. Eliana, get back here now. Stay and help Samuel finish his birthday properly, and I’ll forget this ever happened. But if you keep acting like a stubborn child, you know what will happen.”

Eliana had heard threats like this countless times in her past life. Back then, she cared too much and was too afraid of losing Logan. So, no matter how hurt she felt, whenever he got angry, she would always give in

Sometimes she was hurt enough to fight back. Logan used their child against her. He knew exactly how to control her, because he knew she loved them. He never stopped stepping on her heart, using that love against her every time

Memories rushed back, and a hollow coldness spread through Eliana’s chest. The more she remembered, the deeper the chill sank. The truth of her past life settled into her bones like winter

But the only reason he could treat her that way before was that she had loved him. Now she was done. She didn’t love him anymore. His threats meant nothing to her

now

Watching Eliana slow to a stop, Logan wore a look of smug confidence. He was sure that when he lost his temper, she would always back down

But Eliana didn’t turn around. Logan, she said, her voice cold and clear, I don’t want you or our son anymore. What consequences could possibly scare me now?”

Tomorrow afternoon. The courthouse. Don’t be late.” With those last words, Eliana

didn’t hesitate. She pushed open the door and walked out of the private room
