Chapter 33

Andrew’s voice was hushed, but in the tense silence, a few words still reached those nearby

Logan’s face darkened. Is it confirmed?”

Andrew nodded. I saw the Summit Student ID in her hand. It’s the real one.”

Take her to the reception room. I’ll be right there,” said Logan

Yes, sir.” Andrew quickly left

After Andrew left, Logan tried to steady himself, but meeting Nathan’s gaze through the screen only made his cheeks burn with shame

For some reason, he always sensed subtle hostility from Nathan

Yet, with the Turner Group’s recent return to the domestic market, an alliance was the Eliot Group’s most strategic move

Opposing them wouldn’t mean being swallowed. The Eliot Group was too large for that, but it would undoubtedly make life difficult

Lately, Logan had been working hard to win Nathan’s favor and to make him see the Eliot Group and himself in a better light

But now, this mess blew up right at this critical moment

Just as Logan was about to explain, a soft chuckle came from the other end of the call. Nathan leaned back in his chair, his tone deceptively light. Mr. Eliot, you should attend to your personal matters first

After all, rumors about buying milliondollar outfits on credit wouldn’t reflect well on the Eliot Group.”

Though framed as concern, the sarcasm beneath was unmistakable. Logan’s expression froze into stone

Still, he couldn’t show his displeasure. Alright. My apologies, Mr. Turner. Let’s reschedule to continue our discussion in detail.”

Nathan gave a casual wave and ended the call

The moment the screen went dark, Logan’s face turned thunderous, his anger barely contained

Everyone in the conference room instantly looked down, afraid to meet his eye, terrified of becoming his target

Logan’s gaze swept over them before he finally slammed the documents in his hand onto the table and stood

The loud bang made every executive flinch, holding their breath

In the reception room, the saleswoman, Rita, shot to her feet awkwardly the moment the door opened

Coming to the Eliot Group to collect a debt for a dress was terrifying

But she had no choice. Everyone had assumed Logan would pay promptly and retrieve Samuel’s student ID

Yet, days had passed without a word from the Eliot family

The store manager, holding her responsible, had sent her to collect. If she failed, the cost of the dress would come out of her own pocket

She could never afford one million. She had to come, no matter how scared she was

Seeing Logan enter, Rita hurried forward with a deep bow. Mr. Eliot, hello. I’m Rita from Icoross Boutique. It’s an honor to meet you.”

Logan gave her a cold glance, ignored her greeting, and walked straight to the sofa to sit down

Rita felt a fresh wave of embarrassment but pressed on. Mr. Eliot, I sincerely apologize for disturbing you. Thisthis is Mr. Samuel’s student ID.”

She presented the card with both hands

Logan took it, confirmed it was Samuel’s, and fixed his eyes on her. What happened? How did Samuel end up buying a dress on credit from you?”

Rita quickly recounted the story. Ms. Hewitt said she was your friend and had Mr. Samuel with her. I didn’t dare be disrespectful. So when she suggested leaving his ID as a deposit to take the outfitI couldn’t refuse

But after so many days, no one came for the student ID. I grew worried. What if Mr. Samuel had been tricked too? If you started looking and found the student ID with me, I didn’t know how to explain it

Our manager was also afraid I’d caused an issue, so she instructed me to return the student ID to you immediately.”

Knowing she couldn’t afford to offend Logan, Rita had framed the debt collection as politely as possible

Logan wasn’t a fool. He understood completely

While Rita’s visit annoyed him, the fault wasn’t hers. He had no intention of making things difficult for her

Once he grasped the situation, he asked for the invoice and payment details

Soon, confirmation came from the store manager that payment had been received

Rita hadn’t expected Logan to settle the debt so readily. Overwhelmed with relief, she nearly cried, bowing repeatedly. Thank you, Mr. Eliot. Thank you so much.”

Logan gave a slight, dismissive wave

Rita didn’t dare linger and hurried out

The reception room fell quiet again. Logan lit a cigarette, the gloom in his eyes almost palpable

Isabella’s return had left him conflicted

She walked away during his hardest times. He hated her and believed they were finished forever

But Logan’s heart ached when he saw her risk her life for him abroad and discovered she’d left because of severe depression

He understood his duty to Eliana. But he also wanted to look after Isabella. After all, she’d saved his life. He couldn’t just walk away

Yet, lately, everything Isabella did felt increasingly foreign to him

The proud, elegant woman from his memory seemed to have vanished, replaced by someone petty and calculating

The thought tightened his chest uncomfortably

Just then, Isabella’s voice came from the doorway. Logan, do you have a moment?”

Looking up at her, Logan couldn’t help but frown

He used to think Eliana had no sense of boundaries, always coming to the company for every little thing

But looking back now, Eliana at least only came when there was actual business. Isabella, on the other hand, seemed to have no sense of boundaries at all

With that thought, Logan’s gaze turned cold. What’s up?”
