Feeling Logan’s gaze on her, Isabella felt guilty and kept her head down, avoiding his eyes for a while.

Logan sighed. He didn’t bother to figure out who was at fault right now. Instead, he turned to the doctor and asked, “So, what should we do now?”
The doctor replied. “His eyesight is deteriorating way too fast, and his eyeballs are badly misshapen. Surgery is the only option now. If you let this go on, things could really get out of hand.
“But he’s just way too young for this. If there was any other way, we wouldn’t choose surgery. You, as parents, really must be more careful.
“You leave your kid at home with gadgets and junk food, and when he’s quiet, you think it’s easier for you. But that little bit of convenience for you is actually a huge disservice to your child
“After the surgery, you’ll have to be even more careful.”
As the doctor spoke, he saw Hannah and the others looking extremely uncomfortable, so he decided not to say anything further.
After all, he was just a doctor at Eliot Hospital. Doing his job was important, but if he pushed them too far and risked losing his job, it really wouldn’t be worth it.
So he quickly composed himself and addressed Logan earnestly. “Mr. Eliot, my recommendation is to schedule the surgery as soon as possible.
“If you’re not comfortable with that, you can take Mr. Samuel elsewhere for another opinion. If another doctor has a better solution, you can always opt for a less invasive approach.”
As Logan listened to the doctor, his frown deepened. He realized he’d never really paid attention to anything about Samuel before. Eliana had always been the one taking care of everything
He never considered childcare to be particularly difficult or complicated.
But now, with all these problems dumped in his lap, seeing Hannah totally lost and everyone waiting for him to make the call, Logan finally got how much Eliana had been through these past few years.
Now, no matter what decision he made, at least no one would point fingers at him. But if Eliana slipped up even a little, she’d get called out and blamed right away.
Back then, when he saw Hannah scolding Eliana for not being a good mom, he never thought twice about it. It wasn’t until now that he finally got a taste of just how tough things had been for her.
Just thinking that one decision could shape Samuel’s entire future made Logan feel like this was tougher than signing off on any billion–dollar deal in the business world.

Seeing Samuel sobbing like that, Hannah’s heart twisted with pain as she hugged him tightly. She complained, “Seriously, what was Eliana even doing as a mom? How could she let things get this bad?
“He’s only five years old. Who has to get surgery at that age? He’s been in and out of the hospital nonstop lately, it just kills me to see him like this.
“If I’d known she was this hopeless, I never would’ve let her look after him. Even hiring a random nanny would’ve been way more reliable than her.”

“Enough,” Logan finally snapped at Hannah, his voice sharp. “Mom, can’t you tell right from wrong? Are you really being this unfair right now?
“Be honest with yourself, hasn’t Eliana done a good job taking care of Samuel these past five years? Are you seriously telling me you don’t know why Samuel’s been running to the hospital se much lately?
“Now that something’s actually happened, instead of thinking about how to fix it, all you care about is blaming someone else?”
Hannah was struck speechless by Logan’s harsh words, rooted to the spot in disbelief.
After a while, she retorted, “So, in the end, you think I haven’t done a good job raising him, is that it? Fine. If you think Eliana’s so much better, then let her come back and take care of him.”
With that, Hannah pushed Samuel away and walked out of the room.
Samuel was already terrified about the surgery, and when Hannah pushed him away, he started bawling his eyes out.
Logan quickly scooped him up into his arms, then turned to the doctor and said, “Let’s do the surgery. Just arrange it as soon as possible, whatever’s best for Samuel, that’s what we’ll do
The doctor quickly agreed and made sure Samuel’s surgery was scheduled right away.
In the days before the surgery, Samuel was so scared he clung to Logan and refused to let him leave for even a second.
Logan had no choice but to push aside all his work and stay with Samuel at the hospital.
Isabella kept trying to step in and prove herself, but every time she volunteered to help, Logan just brushed her off.
After a few tries, Isabella realized Logan just didn’t trust her at all so she had no choice but to back off.
But on the day of Samuel’s surgery, Isabella showed up with a huge bag of candy, looking pleased with herself.
“If Samuel’s eyes start hurting later, he’s definitely going to cry. I brought all sorts of candy for him, this way, he won’t make a fuss,” she said.
Seeing her hold the bag of candy out in front of him, Logan couldn’t take it anymore. He knocked it right out of her hand.
Candy scattered everywhere, and Logan snapped, “Isabella, did you not hear a single word the doctor said?
“They made it clear Samuel can’t have any candy right now. He needs more time outside and exercise. Yet you bring him all this? Seriously, what were you thinking?
“You always say you’ll take good care of him, but in reality, you just take the easy way out and use candy to keep him quiet. If you hadn’t done that, he wouldn’t be in this situation now.
“I get it. Samuel’s not your child, so maybe you can’t put your heart into it. But at the very least, you shouldn’t be the one making things worse for him.”
Logan, still visibly upset, said, “Take your candy and leave the room. Samuel doesn’t need you looking after him here.”
When Logan sent the candy flying, Isabella jumped in shock, totally caught off guard.
Logan really lost it and swatted the bag so hard that a bunch of candy bounced off her face. She was already stunned by how things had spiraled.
After hearing Logan’s harsh words, she just couldn’t keep it together anymore.
