A mischievous smile flickered in Nathan’s eyes as he considered what he was about to say.
After steadying himself, he looked up at Eliana, putting on a serious face. ‘Look at my hand, it’s a total mess.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to shower on my own later, so I guess I have to trouble you for some help.
Eliana was a little stunned by Nathan’s serious tone. But she got over it quickly, looked at Nathan, and said, “Sure, that’s what I’m here for.
This time, Nathan was the one who was taken aback. He’d just wanted to mess with her, but her earnest response left him a little rattled.
Not wanting Eliana to notice his flustered state, he tried to compose himself, gave a brief reply, and buried his head in his meal, pretending to be completely absorbed in eating.
Eliana finished her meal in a hurry, grabbed her phone, and quickly booked a nurse to come over, even shelling out extra for urgent service.
After that, she just started mindlessly scrolling through videos on her phone.
Seeing that Eliana wasn’t in any rush to leave, Nathan shot her a suspicious look.
He knew Eliana way too well. He didn’t buy for a second that she’d really go along with such a ridiculous demand.
But watching her stay so cool and collected, Nathan found himself genuinely curious to see what she’d do next.
With that in mind, he set down what he was holding, called someone in to clear the table, and then looked at Eliana. “Alright, let’s get started. The sooner we finish, the sooner you can get some rest.”
As he spoke, Nathan stood up and looked at Eliana. “Come over and help me get undressed.”
Eliana rolled her eyes inwardly, but she managed to keep her tone light. “Mr. Turner, relax. It’s not good to shower right after eating. Wait a little while.”
She glanced at her phone and continued, “Let’s rest for fifteen minutes, then we’ll get started. Sound good?”
Nathan could already tell something was up, but he wanted to see what tricks Eliana had up her sleeve, so he just nodded.
Before the fifteen minutes were even up, the doorbell rang. Eliana went to answer it.
At the doorway stood a young guy in scrubs. He looked at Eliana and said, “Are you the one who requested a nurse?”
Eliana nodded and let him in, then pointed at Nathan. “This is Mr. Turner. His arm’s injured. That means he can’t really shower by himself. So I’ll leave it to you.”
The nurse replied right away, “No problem, that’s what I’m here for.”
With a friendly smile, he turned to Nathan. “Are you ready to get started, Mr. Turner?”
Maybe it was because Eliana had paid for the rush service, the nurse was super attentive, even threw in a small bow for good measure as he spoke.

“I said I don’t need it. Didn’t you hear me?” Nathan snapped, his jaw clenched tight.
But Eliana just played dumb, looking at him with wide eyes. “So what are you going to do about showering: Didn’t the doctor say you’re not supposed to get your hand wet?
“Mr. Turner, I know you’re proud, but we have to listen to the doctor. Just let him help you out.”
The nurse quickly chimed in, “Yeah, Mr. Turner, I’m a pro. I’ll get you cleaned up quick and make sure it’s all done right. You
can trust me.”
“Get out!” Nathan finally snapped, his face turning stormy.
The nurse turned to Eliana, looking unsure. “Should I leave then
With a resigned nod from Eliana, the nurse added, “But, the payment’s non–refundable.
“Don’t worry, we’re not asking for a refund. Just pretend you already did your job,” Eliana said.
Hearing that, the nurse smiled and left.
Once the nurse left, Eliana turned to Nathan.
Seeing his face still stormy, Eliana was amused, though she kept a straight face. “Mr. Turner, really sure you don’t need any help? If you change your mind, just say the word, I can still call him back.”
“No,” Nathan gritted out, barely holding back his anger.
“Alright then, Mr. Turner, rest up. I’ll leave you alone now,” Eliana said, addressing Nathan.
Seeing Nathan still looking so grim, she didn’t linger, just made a quick exit and thoughtfully closed the door behind her.
As soon as the door closed behind her, Eliana couldn’t help but let out a quiet laugh. A wave of satisfaction washed over her at Nathan’s look of irritated resignation.
After all, he’d been trying to mess with her ever since he came back from abroad. This was just giving him a taste of his own medicine.
But he got hurt trying to save her, so Eliana’s grin faded pretty quickly. Deep down, she wasn’t about to forget what he’d
done for her.
When Eliana hit her absolute lowest, it felt like the whole world had just abandoned her.
She’d pushed her parents so far away they barely spoke to her anymore, and after a few blowout fights, Irene stopped talking to her altogether.
